A Letter from the Pilgrims and Indians
The words are hard to read, so here's what it says:
Dear Boys and Girls in Mrs. Broome's
and Mrs. Smith's class,
Hello! We were
very glad to get your letter. Living here at Plymouth Colony is fun, but
we have to work really hard. We have to hunt and grow our own food. Some
of our clothes come from bear and buffalo skins. We also grow cotton and
use sheep's wool to make some of our clothes. We make arrows for our bows
by sharpening stones and then tying them to really straight tree branches.
Even though we work so hard, we are glad to be in America. That's why we
had the first Thanksgiving, to take time to say thanks for the new, exciting
life we have been blessed with. We would really like to visit all of you
on Thanksgiving, but we just have too much to do to get ready for our feast.
We hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving with your families.
Your friends,
Indians and Pilgrims of Plymouth Colony
Of course, this letter was written based on the questions my students asked in the letter. I have done this for about 5 years and each year someone always asks if they can visit. They are satisfied to know that the Pilgrims and Indians are busy with their own feast. :0)
