Here you will find letters that have been sent to Cumulus Media General Manager Ron Giovanniello and several other Cumulus Media executives. These letters were sent to remind them of their own 60 Day Test, and to tell them how we think their test went. You can click here to see the letter I sent out to out supporters asking for these emails to be sent, as well as the letter I personally sent to them on this matter. You can also view the letters some of our supporters sent to them back in July when we began this boycott by clicking here. This is but a mere sampling of the letters I've received, I'll be getting more of them up on here as time permits.
Dear "Powers that be":
Two months ago, you all decided to drop the Coffey & Jammer Show from your morning programming. In my opinion, along with alot of other listeners, that was the worst decision WTPA has ever made.
The very first morning that Bob & Tom were on, I couldnt believe what I was hearing. The previous Friday morning, I had driven to work listening to Ed, Jeff, Amy & John. That was the last time I drove to work in a good mood. The following Tuesday morning (Monday was considered a holiday) these morons were on, and I just could not believe my ears. Was this "my WTPA"? No way. Not in a million years would they do something like this, I thought. Boy, was I wrong. After I heard the announcements that you asked the listeners to listen to Bob & Tom for 60 days, I knew you had all completely lost your minds.
Nonetheless, that first morning I did listen to them the WHOLE way to work (probably because I was in shock), which takes me 30 minutes. I'm sorry to say that was 29 minutes too long.
The moment I arrived at work & got my computer up & running, the first thing I did was to pull up WTPA's website. I was at a loss for words as I saw how you were touting the Bob & Tom show as the "funniest in America". What????? Who voted these guys funny? Surely no one with an IQ above 5.
One things for sure, you definitely got alot of attention. Unfortunately, that attention was all negative from what I have heard. The office I work in has 151 people. At least half of the office listened to WTPA in the morning. Not anymore. Most people have switched to either The X or The River, both of which suck, but not nearly as much as "The Bob&Tomination Show" as we have been calling them. (bob&tomination....abomination, get it???)
I've heard alot of people say that they can't believe WTPA did something so stupid, something so assinine as to get rid of Ed & Jeff. Not only that, but alot of people feel that the listeners as well were "dumped on" by a decision that was made with no warning & no chance for the listeners to voice their opinions. Apparently, listeners mean about as much as the long-time staff of WTPA.
Despite my first impression of B&T, I honestly did try my best to give you the benefit of the doubt because I feel that everyone deserves to have a momentary lapse of reason (temporary insanity) every now & then.
I have caught the show for a few minutes here & there. The last time I forced myself to listen to them was this past week when they were singing songs about smoking & then launched into some dialogue about the wall of pads. That did it for me. I have unprogrammed 93.5 form my radio forever unless Ed, Jeff, Amy & John are brought back...together... for good.
Mr. Giovanniello has claimed that Coffey & Jammer were pulled from the programming because of ratings. I'm wondering what those ratings are now. How could they have been voted "Simply the Best" & have ratings low enough to be cancelled? It makes no sense. How can a company, based in Georgia, know what listeners in Central PA want? I think they may have spent just a bit too much time in that hot Georgia sun.
WTPA used to have the best morning team on the air waves. If you flip thru the dial as I do, nothing on any local station now compares to the Coffey & Jammer Show.
Ed & Jeff are real people to us, they go to the same places we do, they drive the same roads we do, they live in the same neighborhood we do. Most of all, they were personable, they were funny & made us laugh first thing in the morning when most of us were dreading getting up & going to work, they played the music we wanted to hear. They are exactly the opposite of B&T, who have no connection whatsoever to our lives here & thus, mean nothing to us.
WTPA asked us to give B&T 60 days. I would like to remind you that those 60 days are just about up. Please bring Ed & Jeff back to our airwaves no matter what it takes. After all, even though you have a responsibility to your shareholders, how long can a radio station make money for those shareholders with no listeners???
Sincerely,
Sherilyn
Dear Sirs,
I would like to take this opportunity to voice my opinion once again on the "Bob & Tom Morning Team" replacing an irreplacable morning team of "Coffey & Jammer".
It totally escapes my comprehension as to why anyone would make such an unbelievable decision to remove such terrific local talent in the mornings and replace it with a couple of unintelligent and unfunny people. I can't even bring myself to call what Bob and Tom provide a show, much less entertainment because it doesn't deserve the compliment and in my never to be humble opinion, it doesn't meet the criteria for entertainment value.
What you have done in Central PA is inexcusable. Your bottom line should be hitting ROCK BOTTOM soon since the listeners of Central PA have been boycotting WTPA as well as other Cumulus stations.
It's really sad it has come to this since you still have other great local talent with Trapper, Briana, Chris, John and Amy. I have listened to them for so long that I consider them ALL part of my family even though I have never met them. I truly miss each and every one of them. I started listening to WTPA in 1988 and have enjoyed Ed & Jeff and all the interns over the years. However, I believe in the boycott and what it stands for, so until Ed & Jeff are back in the "LOCAL" talent line-up in their old AM time slot with Amy and John, this is one "former" loyal listener that is not listening to WTPA. I haven't listened to WTPA since Bob & Tom have been on and I won't listen till they are gone from our airwaves.
I realize that this is most likely falling on deaf ears in the "Dickey" region of the country, but eventually, hopefully someone will wake up and smell the dollars and cents and put Coffey & Jammer back where they belong.... on the TPA morning drive!
Sincerely,
Janine - New Cumberland
Ladies and gentlemen,
I have been an avid listener to your station for years. The one most important show that I listened to that made me become a 93.5 WTPA fan was the Coffee & Jammer morning show. I was upset when Jammer left a couple of years back and overjoyed when he returned. But now, I get back from being overseas helping to defend our country and you all pull the best show ( Coffee & Jammer morning show) on the station and in the whole state for this CRAP that is now playing (Bob & Tom). I did try an give them a chance but after 2 days I couldn't stand them. THEY ARE NOT FUNNY!!!!
How in the world did you EVER think that Boob & Tom could compete with Coffee & Jammer. I mean how can you think Boob and Tom are funny when C&J had Uncle Nasty, Bob the Evil Elf, Wheel of guy stuff, etc., etc. Not to mention that C&J at least played some music during their show. Boob & Tom didn't play ANY when I listened to them.
You all said to give Bob & Tom a 60 day test run. Well the 60 days will be up next Thursday and I REALLY hope that the management will PULL THE PLUG ON BOB & TOM. I have personally asked hundreds of people through out the mid-state what their opinions where and over 90% want Coffee & Jammer back. An over 97% want the Bob and Tom show pulled. There where some people who liked the Bob & Tom show (LOSERS) but the overwhelming majority hate them and want C&J BACK!
I implore the management to make the right decision by pulling Bob & Tom and bringing back Coffee & Jammer. You will gain allot of your former listeners back.
Thank you,
Doug - Liverpool
I couldn't listen to the Bob and Tom show for a full 60 days as you requested. I tried, but I hated it. I know you are going to do whatever you want with your station, I just wanted to give you my opinion.
I truly enjoyed Coffee and the Jammer in the morning. They made a great team and were very entertaining. I have to admit I no longer have 93.5 programmed into my stereo in my car, work or at home. It used to be my favorite station. But now I'm so disappointed in the Bob and Tom show I don't wish to listen to the station at all. I've switch to other channels like 97.3 (mostly). Sometimes 105.7 (when they aren't playing too heavy) and 106.7(when they aren't playing WINK 104 music). That was the great thing about your station. You were a little heavier than 97.3 but not as heavy as 105.7 and you didn't have an annoying talk show in the morning like 105.7.
I personally enjoyed Coffee and the Jammer and wish you would get them back on air. I would once again be a faithful listener.
You should be thankful that your listeners care enough to share their opinions. Many a stations have come and gone without a second thought. We, the listeners, the heart and soul of your survival, are trying to tell you what we want.
ARE YOU LISTENING?
Respectfully,
Tiff
The 60 day test for the "Bob And Tom" show will be up in just a few
short
days. I can only hope that you are as excited to put the Coffey and
Jammer show
back on the air as we the listeners are. Its been a long 2 months
without
them. I, along with so many of my friends have missed the real humor
that goes
along with Coffey, Jammer and of course Amy Warner. They have become
more than
just a radio morning team. They have become common household names,
which is
more than I can say about Bob and Tom! Allow me to correct that last
statement. Bob and Tom have become household names; just the other
day, my wife and
I were discussing just how much they suck! Not to take anything away
from Bob
and Tom but maybe they would be more liked in another market...far
away.
Perhaps Bob and Tom would have had more fans if they had not replaced
the
funniest, most popular radio morning show in our area. It is my
opinion that Coffey
and Jammer built the 93.5 WTPA fan base. Even when Jammer was gone for
so
long we all still listened. Ed and Amy were great without Jeff. When
he
returned though, it was like WOW! Coffey and Jammer back together
again. I am
looking to come out of 93.5 WTPA retirement, but it will take Coffey
and Jammer
back in the mornings to do that. Thank you for your time.
Brad - Dover
I am in full agreement with the large group of former listeners of WTPA
that a huge error was made in the replacement of Coffey & Jammer with
the sorry Bob & Tom Show. Of all the Harrisburg area radio stations,
WTPA was the only true leader in terms of music and entertainment. The
mixture of Coffey, Jammer, Amy (Warner) and John (Wilsbach) was perfect,
but for some reason, the media executives saw it another way. It
reminds me of the motion picture years ago (circa 1978), "FM", in which the
media heads changed the entire format, causing an outcry from the
listeners. And, we know how that movie ended, don't we?
Like others, I did also give Bob & Tom a trial period, but I could stay
tuned for "minutes" at a time because it was so.....I can't even find
the word to describe it.....but I guess "pitiful" or "pathetic" would
come close.
I gave them (Bob & Tom) additional chances over the weeks, to the point
where I saw absolutely NO hope, and I haven't listened to WTPA at all
for at least three weeks, maybe longer. And, it's a shame, because Amy
and John, as good as they were on the morning show, are suffering from
listeners leaving. I have completely removed WTPA from my push-buttons
in the car.
I think it is truly a sorry situation when such a great station ignores
the audience and says, "Screw You!" in this manner. I don't know if
Coffey & Jammer would even come back to WTPA if asked, but ANY radio
personality duo would have to be better than what WTPA is wasting its air
time on now.
Whoever is responsible for this decision/mistake truly has no place in
radio and should be reassigned. It is NOT TOO LATE for WTPA to stand
up and admit the error.
Richard
Hello, I just want to remind you that your little 60 day test is almost over! We still want Coffey and The Jammer back. We still want things to be as there were.
I did not listen to your Bob and Tom show, as I know them from being in Indy. I hated them then and would not listen then. How they got to be as big as they are is just unbelievable to me, as they SUCK!!!! So, when you put them on the air for this so called 60 day test....I pulled the plug on 93.5, and will not be back to your station until I am told that Coffey and The Jammer are back where they belong....to STAY!!!
You should take an add out in the local paper to let people know they are back on Sept. 3rd 2004 or put adds on the other local radio stations, as no one is listening to your stations anymore, so how will we know? I might tune in on the 3rd just to see if you really kept your word.
Just remember that you need your advertisers, and they need us, the people that listen. If we aren't listening anymore, the advertisers will too soon be leaving your station. Then how long can you stay on the air.
Personally, I think that you if don't put them back on the air, then it will be time for us to change our fight to which station we can get up and running with them on the air again. As that will be the station Central PA will be tuning into! You had cornered the market for Classic Rock in Central PA, but with Coffey and The Jammer in tow, any station can take that market from you.
You have our attention, we are waiting for you to do the right thing, keep your word...And put Coffey and The Jammer back on the air on Sept. 3rd 2004!!! Just as they were before!!!!
And just so you know, even if they were removed from the list. My vote still counts! And I vote The Coffey and Jammer show for the Best Morning Radio Talk Show.....AGAIN IN 2004!!!!
We will stand by Coffey and The Jammer....get them back, or watch your ratings stay in the gutter until we have you and all of your stations out of our listening area!
Without us, the listener's, You can't survive!
A reply would be appreciated, and the placement of this letter in the public file of the station is requested.
Andrew & Patricia
True Fans of the REAL 93.5 WPTA Radio Station
Please bring back Coffee and the Jammer!!
I've waited (suffered, actually) through the last 55+ days, as you
asked me
to. When will you bring back Coffee and the Jammer???
There's no good music on the radio for my 30 minute morning commute. I
cannot bear to listen to the new morning show, and finally took 93.5
off my
preset stations. I cannot believe that your ratings got any better
with the
blathering fools that are now on. There's been a movement among
corporate
communications companies to go to "national" shows. Well, this is one
central Susquehanna Valley resident who keeps in touch with the world
through the newspaper, CNN, and the internet. I would like to have
some
"home-grown" entertainment. I take a lot of pride in my home town, and
I
think you should, too.
Please consider bringing the boys back!
Ramona - Wrightsville
Dear Cumulus Media Staff & Ownership,
I don't know if my original emial was forwarded to all of you, so I am
doing so now.
This is sent as a reminder that "The Bob & Tom 60 Day Test" expires on
Sept. 2, 2004 and to remind you that I'm still not listening to any of
your stations and that I'm still not supporting your advertisers.
I hope that this will help to convice you to bring back Ed, Jeff and
Amy. I miss them and the rest of the air staff at 93.5 WTPA and WINK
104.
Sincerely,
Matthew
To those in charge:
All through highschool I woke up to Coffey and the Jammer. When I
went
away to college I was forced to wake up to Bob & Tom as the only rock
radio
station in Johnstown broadcast their show in the mornings. I was
amused at
first. They actualy had some very funny bits. However after the 17th
replay of the same joke, or same guest, I got bored. Why would I want
to
listen to the same thing today as I heard yesterday? I found myself
adding
a radio station to the list of things I liked about going home for the
hollidays and summer vacations. Finaly I have graduated and returned
to
central pennsylvania only to find that Bob & Tom has followed me! Not
only
that but they have taken over my hometown radio station. What am I to
do in
the mornings? Listen to Howard Stern? I think not. Bring back the
intellegent humor of Coffey and the Jammer! Cammel toe songs are
great, but
they get old FAST especialy with how often bits are played over and
over.
PLEASE BRING BACK COFFEY AND THE JAMMER!!!
~Lucas
To WTPA mangement,
Time is up. Time for Bob & Tom to go and to bring Coffey & the Jammer
back! I
did not need 60 days to realize they stunk! (One day was enough). If
you say
that Bob & Tom are funny, and replacing Ed, Jeff, and Amy with that
stupid show
was a good move...........the Flatu-truth machine connected to you says
FFRRRRRRRRRRTTTTTT!!! I have removed 93.5 from my presets weeks ago and
will not
listen anymore. They were like family....I listened every morning for
years.
Bring 'em Back!!
Ex-listener Karl
Well, the 60 days is almost complete. Your replacement of Coffey and Jammer is a total and utter failure. I tried, I really tried, to listen to Bob and Tom, but I'd rather listen to traffic on I-83 in the morning. They are not funny, as were Ed and Jeff. They are not even live all of the time. They know absolutely nothing about our area, and I'd be willing to bet that they could not care less about our area. I can honestly say the same thing about all of you at Cumulus. I have not listened to one minute of 93.5 WTPA since roughly the third day of Bob and Tom. I not only stopped listening in the mornings, I've stopped listening, PERIOD. I've also stopped doing business with anyone that advertises on the station, and I do not listen to any other Cumulus owned station in this area, nor will I ever again. What you have done to a once enjoyable morning show is disgraceful. But, I know all about corporate indifference, I am employed by a large international company, and the similarities are astounding between them and your company. The bottom line is always the almighty dollar. Screw the workers, and/or in your case, the listeners. I just hope and pray that this blows up in your faces. The ship is sinking fellows, and you're going to go down with it.
P.S.: I feel absolutely sorry for all of the remaining on air personalities, including Amy Warner.
Jere
93.5 WTPA management,
I feel it is time to voice my opinion on the matter of the sudden removal of Coffey and The Jammer from your morning timeslot. It was a disappointing shock to find out Coffey and The Jammer were being replaced. Not just replaced, but replaced by a syndicated show that claims to be funny. They are the complete opposite of funny; they are annoying. I, for one, can not even muster the ability to listen to Bob and Tom for more than 30 seconds. I am well aware of the fact that nothing lasts forever, and this was most likely a business decision. I'm also sure you had a very good reason for removing Ed and Jeff after so many years. I just hope it wasn't done merely as a cost-saving measure, because I have to believe you made the wrong decision.
Now that 60 days are almost up, I request that you make the decision to remove Bob & Tom, and bring back local disc jockeys that actually play music. I would like nothing more than to turn on 93.5 as I drive to work and again hear Ed, Jeff and Amy.
Thank you for your time.
Mathew - Dillsburg
Ladies and Gentlemen,
I can only imagine how many emails, telephone calls and traditional correspondence that you have received following your decision to end the Coffey & The Jammer Show. I was very disappointed not to have their show available to me during my ride to work and for a few moments in the office before I started my day. I listened to the Bob & Tom Show as requested, but not for long or very often.
I enjoy listening to music in the morning. I enjoy listening to local news in the morning. And I also enjoy listening to people talk about things, concerts, events that are going on in my community. I think that you will agree with me that Bob & Tom cannot offer this local commentary. Now I listen to The River and Bob 94. What a change in content, style and chemistry. You will note that Wink 104 is not on the list. There are a number of reasons for this, not the least of which is that it is owned by your corporation.
If Coffey & The Jammer return to WTPA, then I will return as a Loyal Listener. If they don't return, then neither will I. Certainly not as long as Bob & Tom Show is on the airwaves.
Respectfully,
Brett
Gentlemen,
Your decision to air the Bob & Tom show has forced me to listen
elsewhere. I have joined the boycott of the station and will continue to NOT
listen to the band of idiots you now have as a morning show.
Their style of canned laughter turns me off instantly.
The intro from every commercial is too long and there are too many
things going on to make it "listenable" in the morning.
I would much rather have my two friends, though we've never met, back
on the air so I can get my weather, traffic, news, etc.
Thank you.
John
I've taken the 60 day test and failed miserably!!!! I do not and can no longer listen to 93.5 as in the past. Bob and Tom are annoying and make it impossible to even think about tuning into 93.5. I have an empty space on my cars radio preset channels because I don't enjoy your station any longer. I failed because I can't give them 60 days, nor 60 seconds I would sooner listen to static then to subject myself to hearing the nonsense that you chose to put on what used to be a great radio station.
sincerely
Lil
I tried and tried to listen to Bob and Tom. It didn't
work for me so I no longer listen to your station in
the morning. Evening listening has also become
annoying when commercials come on and highlights from
the show is played. I write this in hopes it will help
Coffee, the Jammer, and Amy back to my alarm clock.
Rich
Hello,
I am writing to you to let you know that I have given your morning show a chance. Well, first of all, it is not a good show at all. I was a devoted listener to Coffey & Jammer and have given these guys a chance, but I am sorry they don't even come close. Who wants to get ready for work and listen to a bunch of "babbling"? And that is what has become of your morning show. I don't find it funny or humorous at all. Coffey & Jammer were two great guys you had on and since this all took place, I am listening to another station. Why did you do this? Please pull a plug on your "new morning show"...
Thank You,
Debbie
Well it's been a while now and Bob and Tom still aren't funny or worth listening to either. I purposely avoid 93.5 now as a conscious thing. I have found the River 97.3 to be OK to listen to and a suitable replacement for Bob and Tom. The only reason to come back to 93.5 would be if Coffee and Jammer were to magically reappear.
Robert
Dear Sirs:
At your request to give WTPA a 60-day test on your choice of a new morning show, I have. I have to say I was very disappointed.
I am lucky enough to be able turn the channel or listen to XM Radio or listen to my recent discovery of books on tapes, you on the other hand are not that lucky, I hope you enjoy listening to it because I do not and will not listen. It is too bad that when you had a good thing working for you that you could not just leave it well enough alone. You have taking the joy out of my radio listening.
A former loyal listener for 20 years,
Lisa
According to the email you sent me, Bob and Tom were to be given 60 days for a trial period. Well, I haven't bother to listen to your radio station once since they hit the air and I hope that come early Sept the Coffey and Jammer are back on the air. I can't imagine that enough people enjoy that idiotic talk of Bob and Tom to make your station money. As a side note, the billboards on I-83 of Bob and Tom are nauseating, hope they disappear soon also.
Well, finally, the sixty days are nearly over. Please take pity on your former morning listeners and take the Bob and Tom show off the air. I can't even stand the "sound bites" of them the rest of the day. The so called humor is forced, the laughter is fake and if it wasn't for the guest appearances they would just sit there pretending to laugh at each others boring skits.
Your move has forced the River to change the format to a little harder one. Since your former listeners are now on their board.
Please, stop the torture!!
sincerely,
Anthony
Well, I did it. I took the infamous "60 Day Test." Did it transform me? Did it make me come back to WTPA? Did it instill loyalty back to 93.5? No, no it did not.
I am disappointed to say that the show "sucks." It lacks the local flavor and appeal Coffey and Jammer were able to instill in the program format. I listened to 93.5 for the rock and the funny quips from the morning team (C & J). I can listen to talk radio on other stations. These guys you have on are "canned." They are syndicated. They are not able to interject local humor that local people love to hear and can relate to. There is truly something missing from your current format. I cannot fathom how you can say that listenership declined with Coffey and Jammer. 93.5 was the only station I listened to in the mornings on my long commute to work (over an hour). Now I resort to CDs--not even radio!
It's really a shame. I grew up with these guys. My kids listened to them. They are only young teens, but they miss Coffey and Jammer too.
I am curious about the REAL stats related to Coffey and Jammer -vs- Bob and Tom. I bet the REAL data shows a decline in listeners NOW.
You can undo this poor business decision by hiring Coffee and Jammer back! At the very least, hire Coffey back.
Missing my rock and jocks in the morning,
Karen
To whom it may concern:
I am writing to express my opinion of the Bob and Tom morning show. I find this show to be much less entertaining than the Coffey and the Jammer show. After attempting to listen to the show for several 15-20 minute intervals, on several different days, I was less than impressed. I found one bit they did interesting, but the only reason it was interesting was the guest. (Mr. Tony Stewart of Nextel Cup fame.) In other words, I have found a new home for my radio, and that is Y102 from the Reading area.
I am sorry to inform you of this decision, but I do not like the Bob and Tom show, and I will not be a supporter of it.
I will reconsider my decision, if the Coffey and the Jammer were to return.
Sincerely an ex-listener,
Nathan - Fredericksburg
Bob and Tom's 60 day"trial period" is almost up. The listeners are hoping that you bring back Coffee and the Jammer and the REAL HOME OF ROCK AND ROLL at the end of the 60 days. I for one, am VERY anxious for them to return because I've listened to them on my way to work EVERY morning up until these two "jokes" were put on the air. You can't expect ANY true Rock and Roller to put up with these two... They couldn't EVER hold a candle to Coffee and the Jammer and Uncle Nasty and the rest of the gang?!?!? How can you litterally insult the intelligence of the south central Pennsylvania listening community and replace two icons like Coffee and the Jammer with "Bob and Tom" ???
There's no comparison... Coffee and the Jammer are true Rockers! Plain and simple...
They know what the people want and the people are telling you.....
BRING BACK COFFEE AND THE JAMMER!!!!
THE LONGEST RUNNING TEMPORARY MORNING CREW!!!!!!
BRING THEM BACK BEFORE YOU LOSE THE REST OF THE AUDIENCE THAT YOU'RE UPSETTING WITH THESE TWO JOKES THAT ARE "SO-CALLED" DJ'S!!!!!!!!!
Ray - Lebanon
As requested by the folks at cumulus, I did in fact listen to the bob and tom show so that I could generate an honest opinion on the "show"
Needless to say, I was completely dissatisfied with it! It still amazes me that you called it a "business decision" to remove Ed and Jeff from the morning show. The bob and tom show is in no way entertaining. I have trouble simply putting up with listening to the "show"
As I have stated before, and I will reiterate, I no longer will and have no desire to listen to 93.5 WTPA until Ed and Jeff return.
I may be able to put up with the morning show if bob and tom are removed.
Sincerely,
Mark
To Whom It May Concern:
Almost 60 days ago, you asked us, the listeners of 93.5 WTPA to listen to your new show Bob & Tom and give it a 60-day test period. That 60 days is almost up, and they are awful! I have permanently tuned 93.5 out of my radio, and will not listen at all until Ed and Jeff are brought back on the air. I currently listen to a rival station in the morning and all through the day, and will continue to do so, until given a reason to do otherwise. I know my husband also listens to a different radio station now that Ed and Jeff are no longer on the air, as do the majority of my family members in Central Pennsylvania. Your 60 days is up, bring Ed and Jeff back!
Sincerely,
Maria
The test time is about up. I have tried to listen several times for a
few minutes at a time. I'm sorry but they are just not funny and their
constant laughing at themselves is annoying. I want to hear not only
talk about current events but also current events going in our area.
They don't even know where we are.
I'm now listening to Baltimore's 98 The Rock. They are very funny but I
can only tune in along certain parts of my drive before I lose the
connection which then I switch to The River but no one is as funny or
enjoyable as Coffey and Jammer and Amy. They know their listeners and
know the areas they live in. My friends and I are always rehashing the
funny things we heard them say or do that morning.
Please bring them back so I don't have to keep switching stations along
my commute. I drive 40 minutes each morning and they make it
enjoyable.
Jill
Well the first time I wrote to you, you replied to give Bob and Tom a 60 day listen to, fair enough I tried but to no avail. I do not enjoy listening to their show at all. They are not funny, If I want to listen to talk radio with out the music I will listen to Stern on the X which I do from time to time. Maybe this was some type of publicity stunt I dont know, but please admit you made a business mistake and take it like a man/woman (to how every made the decision) and try something else as I am sure Coffey and Jammer are sure not to come back if you asked. AS I mentioned before, before cumulous took over I liked the station as being a small market community station now it seems to be a corporate station which stinks but at this point I have no option but to listen which I find my self now not listening to at all and just channel surfing, I guess I could go satellite which I have been looking into. Bottom Line taking Coffey and Jammer off the air before their time was a bad/wrong decision. If Coffey and Jammer do come back this would be great and I am sure 93.5 would be the most listened to station in the area for sure. I do realize for growth and market growth and possibly stock holders sake you must try new things to grow but this was the wrong thing to do. PLEASE get rid of Bob and Tom. Well with this I hope you all can admit you mistake and correct it
Thank You,
Bob
WTPA Executives:
Your General Manager, Ron Giovanniello, in an email asked us to take a 60 day test. This email was sent out to everybody that expressed their objections to your business decision to cancel the Coffey & Jammer show and replace it with Bob & Tom. The 60 days in question is up on Thursday September 2, 2004.
I took as much of your test as I felt was appropriate. I listen to the radio at work from 7 AM to 5PM, previously, I listened solely to WTPA. I do not feel the current show is appropriate for an office setting, nor is it enjoyable; I did listen to your new show on the way to work in the car and then until 730 AM, at which time I would switch to a different station until 10AM and then turn back to WTPA.
Most days at work, I no longer listen to your station, its easier to just not switch the station. I still listen to WTPA in the car, but as of next week the test is over and I will change permanently to another station. There has to be a station in this area that wants me as a listener, because obviously your station does not.
You have to decide what to do next. I feel the obvious answer is to pull the plug on your current programming, get the music back on the air in the mornings, and get some local talent on the air to host it. The placement of this letter in the public file of the station is requested.
Thank you for your time and consideration,
Mark - Dover
I have given your station the 60 day test . . . . and it still sucks!! PLEASE bring Ed & Jeff back. Until then . . . I, a 93.5 listener for at least the last 18 years, will no longer listen to 93.5 at all.
Thanks and I hope you bring them back!!!
Dawn
Hello All,
The end of the 60 day test is almost here!!!
Bob and Tom are not funny at all and that was something you promised
with the
new show. I have tuned out completely because of your choice of the new
show.
The management team needs to admit their mistake and return Coffey and
Jammer
back to the airwaves.
The dedicated listeners of the WTPA morning show want our friends
Coffey and
Jammer back!!!!!!
Make it happen!!!!!
Thanks
Steve
As you asked in a previous email I attempted to listen to your attempt
to replace our beloved long time morning show. Guess what, I still
think that it stinks. Probably more so now than I did when you first aired
these two misfits. The 90 day test you requested is coming to an end
and I hope that you recosider your decision and remove this show from
your broadcast. I personally would rather have local people on the air. I
would appreciate a response so I know if you are going to continue with
this show or bring back the old format with local personalities. If the
later is the case I will be tuning into your station just as I did
before. Otherwise, I hope you are happy with those 2 and listen to them on
a daily basis so you can be as diassatisfied as most of Central Pa. has
been for the last 60 days.
Thanks for reading this,
Dale
Hi!
In case you really do care about public opinion, as you should,
I'd
like to voice my opinion on the current morning show. Don't know who's
idea it was to replace Ed, Jeff and Amy with the Bob & Tom Show, but it
was
a huge error in judgement! First of all, who would even consider
replacing
Ed, Jeff and Amy when they had such a loyal following. How often does
the
public actually miss the personalities even when they just take a
week's
vacation! You had a gold mine there with the 3 of them together!!!
They
are intelligent and funny and local! It's bad enough that someone
thought
they had to be replaced . . . . . but with the Bob & Tom Show?!!! I
tried
listening a couple days, and couldn't stand them! My husband feels the
same way. He'd say, "How can they laugh and laugh the whole way thru
the
same dumb songs over and over. It has to be canned laughter and it's so
annoying!" I'd say "I know!" Or I'd say, "You know, they aren't very
intelligent and they aren't even funny!" And he'd say, "I know!" They
are
so annoying, that even when I'd be in my car on my commute home from
work
in the afternoon, just hearing the jingle advertising the Bob & Tom
show
rubbed me wrong and I'd switch stations! Every couple days, I'll check
briefly to see if by some chance, someone got smart and brought Ed,
Jeff
and Amy back. As soon as I hear some stupid hick song and canned
laughter,
I'm gone! I really can't imagine who would like that show! No one with
real intelligence, I'm sure!
I am currently a "former" 93.5 WTPA listener. You let me know the day
Ed,
Jeff and Amy come back the way they were and my husband and I will be
back
the same day!!! As will all of the other former listeners, I would
imagine. I always thought the public opinion was the bottom line for
radio
station success, so I can't imagine what happened here! You've got to
be
in a sinking ship with the drop in ratings!
So what we're saying is, when you come to your senses and bring Ed,
Jeff,
and Amy back as the team they were, you let us know, and we'll be back!
Until then . . . . . forget it!!! Anxiously awaiting that good news!
Thanks for your time,
Faye
Mr Giovanniello,
I can only echo Mr. Snyder's original comments. I too tried to listen to "Bob and Tom". They're incessant use of a laugh track, playing their theme song and comedy that wasn't funny made me switch stations. I checked their web site to see if I was missing something. I'm guessing they're "coast-to-coast" because of volume-based pricing, not because they're in demand.
I'm hoping that a change is coming in your morning show in the near future. Otherwise I'll remain an ex-WTPA listener.
Regards,
Craig Boyhont
I agree that Coffey & Jammer should be brought back to WTPA. I've now switched my morning radio station because I still don't think Bob & Tom are funny. Maybe the West coast can relate better to Bob & Tom, than those of us who grew up in the Harrisburg, York, Lancaster area, but we appreciate the humor of Coffey and the Jammer. I'd certainly enjoy tuning my radio back to 93.5 and hear the Coffey, Jammer and Amy Morning show. BRING THEM BACK. And send Bob and Tom back to California!! We don't want them here in PA.
LuAnn
I received an email indicating that the 60-day test
period for the new morning show on WTPA is just about
expired and I wanted to express to you once again that
I believe the termination of Ed Coffey and the Jammer
was a huge mistake. I have been a loyal listener of
WTPA since I started working here in Harrisburg in
December 1998 and must confess that I used to love
coming into range because I truly enjoyed the morning
show. I commuted from Allentown for 2 years and 9
months to Harrisburg and loved the time I spent
listening to the show in the morning. After moving
here, I continued listening to the show until it was
taken off the air.
One of the things I liked most about the show was the
local connections that Ed & Jeff had to the area. It
made the show more interesting and enjoyable to listen
to. Having been a dj on a college station for 4
years, and a music fan for my entire life, I
appreciate talent when I hear it and I really enjoyed
the Coffey & Jammer show. I have tried to listen to
the new morning show but the local connection is
missing. There is no intimacy with the listeners or
even the geographic area. Everything is canned and
somewhat sterile. I prefer just about anything else
on in the morning to the Bob & Tom show and have
pretty much stopped listening to WTPA because of the
way the Coffey & Jammer show was taken off the air.
There was no listener consensus & although business
decisions often ignore the consumer, I have not spoken
to a single individual since the morning show was
changed who agrees with the move. Most of my friends,
co-workers and associates have stopped listening to
WTPA now and have found alternatives for their morning
commutes or leisure time.
I implore you to bring back the Coffey & Jammer show
to WTPA and restore what was a successful, enjoyable,
interesting and locally invested radio show. It would
be nice to be able to hear the friendly voices of Ed
Coffey and Jeff Jammer on the radio again coming from
WTPA as I made the much shorter drive to work.
Obviously I would like to receive a positive response
to my request and I would also like to have this
letter retained by the station so that it is clear
that this former loyal listener has stated his
position on the matter.
Thank you for your consideration.
Mark
Ladies and Gentlemen,
I am writing to remind you the end of the 60 day test is coming soon. I have listened to 93.5 in the mornings for many years, but have stopped since the Bob & Tom Show started. I could not believe my favorite station would betray me like this and expect me to like it. I heard Tom & Bob the first day they were on the air and thought it was a joke. These guys are sickening and not at all funny. I always enjoyed my commute home in the morning listening to 93.5. For the past few weeks I have been listening to 105.7 the X. Howard Stern is not Coffee & Jammer but at least he has more class than the two jerks on 93.5 now. I hope you will come to your senses and bring back the only morning show in Central Pa. I will check 93.5 after the 60 day test ends and if Bob & Tom are still on I have no choice but to turn my radio to 105.7 and delete 93.5 from memory. I have faith you will make the right choice for the sake of your business.
The choice is yours!
Sincerely,
Wade
Okay guys, I rather impatiently waited 60 days as you requested to give Bob and Tom a chance. I have tried numerous times to listen to that God-awful show in the mornings and can't bear to do it -- and I really, really tried to keep an open mind. Other than the few times I've tried, I have not once turned to 93.5 WTPA. You have lost a loyal listener when you got rid of Coffey and the Jammer (as well as many others, from what I understand). Are you guys out of your minds? What in the world are you hoping to accomplish by getting rid of Coffey & the Jammer? The demise of 93.5, obviously! I could not find one thing I like about the new guys or the new show that was remotely funny and if I wanted crap I'd listen to Howard Stern of 105.7. I have listened to Coffey and the Jammer for as long as I can remember. They click in a strange way... it is their history and friendship that make it what it is -- comraderie that cannot be replaced by anyone. Coffey and the Jammer WERE 93.5 and without them you have lost a huge fan base. Of the many people I know that were fans of Coffey and the Jammer, I know of not one that still listens to 93.5. I also think it is horrible the way you abruptly ended the show without telling the audience what was going on.... these people are a part of our daily lives and they have been a nice addition to our lives... we deserve better than one day disappearing from the radio, the web site and everywhere like they never existed. I think you making the corporate decisions should be the ones to go... not those guys. 93.5 does not deserve to have Ed and the Jammer and I hope another station will pick them up as a group (and that Amy will be smart and leave to go with them!)... what a team! They were local people talking about local things and funny things that we cared about. I keep hoping that this is a publicity stunt and that you'll bring them back better than ever, but I'm afraid we're doomed. Guess I'll get my CD's out or be stuck listening to Sue & Denny in the mornings, which, I'm afraid, is better than Bob & Tom!! Bad choice on your part. Admit your mistake and woo them back!
Thanks for listening even though you obviously aren't listening to your public at all! Without us you are nothing.
Tina - Palmyra
Ladies and Gentlemen
I have taken the 60 day Bob & Tom test. I can honestly say I was only
able to listen to the show for a total of 3 or 4 hours over the 60 day
period. The show is terrible.
I have to admit, I do occasionally listen to your station during other
time periods, but Bob & Tom are SO bad, that when you play one of their
commercials, I turn off WTPA.
Please admit that you have made a terrible mistake. RETURN COFFEY &
JAMMER to Central PA. for the sake of your listeners and you
shareholders.
Thank you.
Mike - York
93.5 - I just don't think Bob & Tom are funny - please bring back
Coffey & Jammer!
Stephanie - York
To whom it may concern,
I listened to your station every morning just to hear Coffee, Jammer and Amy. I found them funny, witty, serious when they had to be and the best morning show in town. I am from York, PA and I hated to actually arrive at work because I wouldn't get to hear the rest of the show. When you started airing the Bob and Tom show I stopped listening. I have tried on several occasions to tune in to them and to try and give them a chance but they are not funny, not interesting and not for me. I liked the fact that besides doing their show music was played in between. I can't stand listening to Bob and Tom dribble for more that 5 minutes so your radio station has not been on in my vehicle very often. I even tend to not listen in the afternoons because I forget to change my radio for the morning and when I turn my vehicle on the last thing I want to hear is Bob and Tom. I have given them their sixty days although they really didn't deserve 60 seconds. You have lost a lot of listeners and I don't even know if you actually will get those listeners back. PLEASE TAKE BOB AND TOM OFF THE AIR. In two words THEY SUCK!
Sincerely,
Missie
I tried your test for almost 60 days. It was horrible. If you will
not come to your senses and put back the original morning show, at
least put music back on and get rid of this horrible show. If not, I guess
you lost another listener.....
Mark
Ladies and Gentlemen,
It has come to my attention that the Bob and Tom show has been on the air for approximately 60 days as of September 2, 2003. I did as you requested and tried to listen to them to give a fair judgment. As much as I'd like to say I held up my end, I just can't lie, I couldn't stand them for more than 5 minutes. Their jokes and stories are not funny and have nothing to do with the local listeners. I really miss the the great music and the local personalities that brought everything together.
Since the listeners tried to do as you asked and listen for 60 days, can you do what we ask and please pull the plug on this horrible show and bring back the local talents.
Thank you for your time and consideration
Tracy - Harrisburg
Good Morning,
I concur with the attached. I do not think I could have stated
anything
better then what is stated on the attached LN.
I sincerely hope you are a man of your word Mr. Giovanniello-
I look forward to hearing Coffey and Jammer on the morning show - where
they should be.

To Whom it Concerns:
I am 39 years old and have been a Coffey and the Jammer fan since my 20's and have been listening to WTPA since high school....until recently that is. Normally, I am not very good at boycotting anything, and this was no exception, but I have stuck to my guns and turned WTPA off since this decision was made. I remember listening to WTPA the week this happened, figuring Coffey & Jammer must be on vacation since Chris James was on the air and not thinking much of it. Then my husband brought home a copy of the newspaper carrying the story about the change in the morning show. I had decided years ago that I could not stand Bob and Tom (my commute to work takes me out of range of WTPA and I was forced to listen to them a few times on other stations and found them not funny and at times gross and offensive and believe me, I do not offend easily!!) therefore when I found out that Coffey and the Jammer were being replaced by them, I was shocked and disappointed and even angry. I was so glad to run into people wearing bring back Ed and Jeff logos at a recent Hershey concert because I had thought sure that there must be others who were as upset as I.
I realize I am only one listener, but I now know that I am not alone in feeling that this particular "business decision" was a poor one and I ask you to stick to your pledge to re-visit this matter after 60 days. I am sure this has generated a lot of publicity for the station and bringing back Ed and Jeff would probably do the same. Until then, my radio remains tuned to other stations. I have not yet changed the pre-set for WTPA because I hoped this decision would be reversed, but I have managed to not listen in the last 2 months and will no longer listen at all unless Coffey and the Jammer are returned to their rightful place on air.
Respectfully,
Kathleen - Millersburg
Dear sir:
I have stopped listening to 93.5 I have taken it out of all of my stereo settings. Since you changed the morning show which I used to listen to on a daily bases because I didn't car for the Howard Stern show. Now, I listen to the Howard Stern show because your morning show of boring and dull is the worse. I don't find them funny or interesting and wouldn't listen to them if I was paid to. They have nothing of interest to me or anyone that I know or anyone who used to listen to your radio station. I won't listen to any of your station now, I guess 105.7 the X should call you up and thank you for the change because more people listen to them now. Your station is of no interest to me any more. BRING BACK COFFEY AND THE JAMMER
YOUR X LISTENER
ANN
Sixty day is almost up and I'm still not listening to 93.5 WTPA. I have
switched to WiNK 104 & 105.7 The Edge until Coffey & the Jammer are
back on the morning show.
John
Please bring back Ed and Jeff. The bobbing Tom, Tom & Bob, whatever you
people call this new morning show - SUCKS!
I've tried listening to it - it has no flow, their boring and I miss the Central
PA hospitality of Ed, Jeff and Amy. If I wanted a national radio show, I'd listen
to Howard Stern. Maybe I'll have to start since you people screwed Ed and Jeff!!!!
Concerned Listener!

Management at Cumulus Media,
Well, now that we have had Bob & Tom on the air for a couple of months, I believe it is time for a little feedback. I must admit the first week that I listened to Bob & Tom, I was a little impressed. They were funny and fresh. By weeks three and four I was starting to get a little aggitated with all of the fake laughing that they do with every joke. I find this insulting, it's as if I need to be told what is funny, but what ever, I can get over it. Here it is two months later and I have to admit I don't even listen to the radio in the morning anymore. The reason being is after the first month, Bob & Tom became a repeat show. The parody songs such as "Orange Barrells" and "Feminine Hygene" Were funny, but are now worn out. Interviews with Kevin Pollock doing impressions was hilareous, but are now over and done. Beside the fact that Bob & Tom really aren't that original, they are not local. I would rather listen to a morning radio team that has an interest in my home town, and can occasionally play songs, relate to things that I like. Now some stuffed shirt out in LA that thinks he knows everyone, and that we should jump on his band wagon. If that was the case, I guess I would be listening to the two "Assholes" out of New York.
Please bring back Coffee and Jammer.
Ok if not Jammer at least Coffee and Amy and give them a little help, I'm sure that if you invest a little into our city it will pay off in the long run.
