There is a court precedent for what Capt. Walker did: United States v McCardle, 3 Am St Trials 303-305; Wheeler's Crim Cas (NY, 18 Dec 1822). In that case, a person (like Captain Walker) rescued women being unlawfully detained. In court, the rescuer was upheld for doing so; and the opponent (woman-detainer / 'slaver') was criminally proscuted! Here, the slavers should have been arrested, and Walker treated as the law enforcement hero he was. Slavery was unconstitutional in the U.S., pursuant to the Magna Carta, Common Law, Colonial Charters, the Declaration of Independence, the Constitution of U.S. and the States, and the Bill of Rights.
