The Third Day

Day Three
22 June 1844

Seven slaves are reported to have disappeared from Pensacola. Walker writes that "on the evening of the 22nd, seven men came on board the boat, and we left the place, went out of the harbor, and followed in the direction of the coast to the eastward."

Walker was ill: "I had for two days been somewhat unwell, having been much exposed to the violence of the sun, and had been what is called sun-struck, and was now exposed to the sudden changing elements night and day in an open boat."

President James Tyler leaves Washington, DC, to get married in New York City.
