TEN STEPS TO GOOD WOOD ARROWS
1.I cut my shafts to close to finished arrow length (why straighten what you don't need?)Dont forget to allow extra for your tapers.
2. Roll shafts on a flat suface ( check surface with straight edge) with a light source behind so you can see the high spots, rub the top of the bend with a shaft tamer or smooth glass bottle this crushes the fibers on the outside of the bend wich makes them stay straight. Do this several times over a few days until they seem to stay good
3. I now taper both ends, doing so now seems to ensure they will stay shooting well even after the arrows are a little beat up I think the tapers stay even with the centerline of the arrow even if the arrow is bent in one spot after use.
4.your now ready to sand with 220 and stain , let dry overnight.Staining is not necessary but I feel it helps seal the shafts and brings out the  grain.
5. now go over the shafts with super fine steel wool
6.for finish you can use wipe on poly or dip the shafts in a plastic golf bag tube with liquid polyurethane.Hang with clothespins on a nail and dry overnight.
7. I use a ten inch crown dip of lacquer based paint , dry overnight. This step is also optional.
.8.. Fletch with your favorite feathers, if   fletching over poly use Duco cement or fletching tape. If over paint use Fletchtite or tape.
9. I crest with permanent marker pens and seal this with water based poly spray.
10.. mount points with hot melt, spin test and enjoy!

The trophy, whether it be a birds egg, a mess of trout, a basket of mushrooms, the photograph of a bear, the pressed specimen of a wild flower, or a note tucked into the cairn on a mountain peak, is a certificate, it attests that its owner has been somewhere and done something-that he has exercised skill, persistence, or discrimination in the age old feat of overcoming, outwitting, or reducing to possession. These connotations which attach to the trophy usually far exceed its physical value.- Aldo Leopold
