This is a collection of my shortest tournament and match games. I wish I could say that they were all wins, but they weren't.
The following is the fourth game in a summer match played between me and Clem Ellis of Canton, Minnesota. The winning combination was something that I had found on my own, at the time not realizing that it was a well-known published variation. |

In round 3 of the Cedar Valley Chess Club Championship held in Waterloo, Iowa, I was paired with Dr. David Crownfield, a chess friend and professor from the University of Northern Iowa, where at the time I was a student. We had played numerous casual games, in which I had consistently trounced him. This game was the first one that actually counted for anything - and he trounced me. |

In round 4 of the Middle Division of the 15th Annual Iowa Open held in Cedar Rapids, I faced Dr. Voetberg. I knew that he was a better player, and I began the game with some fear and trepidation. The game result was a surprise to both of us. | ||
