I did not graduate from Bowen, but I lived at 9049 Constance and attended Earhart School until 1963. I remember getting french fries and a coke from Thomas Restaurant, birthday presents from Totville, baseball cards, pinkie balls and flyback paddleball from Millers Five and Dime. Seaways was the premier deli on 87th St. Toys from Iversons (I was afraid of Mrs. Iverson). I have been reading everyone's accounts of their childhood and I too remember Hilltop..I went to Warren before Earhart was built. Wallys fruit stand was accross the street from my father's business and Hillman's was where my mother shopped. Of course Pinzur pharmacy, (I went to school with David Pinzur) but all of you forgot the Chinese restaurant in the bowling alley on 95th St. What about the first Henrys Drive-In at 95th and Jeffery. Truly, we all lived in a very special time that we should cherish. Life was simple and beautiful then, and this area of the city was quite uniquely special.

Caldwell School is on 86th Street and bordered
by Cregier Ave., on the east and East End on the
west. I went to school there from 1958 until
1964. I lived at 1749 E. 83rd Place while
attending Caldwell and Bowen.
I am also looking for names and locations of stores from Jeffrey to Stony Island Avenues in the 1950-s and 60's and the owner's names. Thank you.
I graduated from Caldwell in January of 1958. But for Eighth Grade we had to take the bus to Avalon because the school was overcrowded. We had our own teachers like Miss Dempsey and Ms. Donahue. When at Caldwell we had to walk home very day for lunch, but at Avalon we could bring our lunch or go to the pizza place on 79th across the street from Sears.
