87th STREET

Through the years 1963-1967 I used to hang out at Art's Cycle and Hobby at 87th and East End. The owner, Harry Swiddler, was one of the kindest, understanding men I have ever known. Harry was about 63 at the time and he taught me how to use tools and I discovered the mechanical talents that lied dormant within. I credit him a lot for turning me from a  troubled delinquent to a better person. I wish he was still alive so I could thank him for his kindness.

I always enjoyed the deli on 87th Street, Skyway, I believe. It had a great atmosphere and was packed on Sunday mornings.     Mr. B's clothing store, owned by Sherwin Bulmash's father, was a popular landmark for many years. Unfortunately, they were the kind of clothes that mothers bought for sons, but boys would rarely choose on their own.

Hey, Joel, WRONG!

My dad, Mr. B., had very SHARP clothes and, when I worked there for him, I was always happy to see the Bowen guys come in and peruse the clothes.

I arrived at this site because my brother Sherwin Bulmash, as you all must know by now, was killed in a horrible auto accident on his way to retirement in Las Vegas.

He was always a larger than life presence and hope that everyone who reads this, remembers him with love.  Sadly, another loss from the South Side and Mr. B's Clothes for Men's shop was the death of Gary Kabins recently.  He, too, was a wonderful, wonderful South Sider who is missed.

My folks, Marcey and Sidney Bulmash extend their greetings to all our old neighbors, and, my sister, Ellen and I do as well.

Maybe we'll all meet again some day.
