About Soaking & Cleaning Cowhides
Soak the hides in several changes of clear water. Soaking time depends upon
the condition of the hides; some hides require only two hours, while others
need a longer time.
After the hides begins to soften, start working over the flesh side to break
up the adhering tissue and fat. Dried hides have a tight layer of tissue
that have to be broken up and removed; this can be done by scraping and
soaking the hide.
When the cowhide is almost soft, put it in lukewarm water containing 1 ounce
of soda or borax per gallon; add soap to this solution. Use a paddle to stir
the hide around in the solution. This treatment promotes softening, cleans
the cowhide, and cuts the grease.
Lie the cowhide on a smooth board, flesh-side up. Work the hide with the back
edge of a knife flat against the side; rinse the skin thoroughly in lukewarm
water. Squeeze out most of the water.

Cows from South America live in a hot climate so their coats are fine and soft.
Most South American farmers interbreed their native stock which produce an
amazing range of colours and patterns. They also incorporate european breeds
and interbreed them with local zebu cows.
Zebu cow
Each cowhide is unique and has a different shape. The size is measured
by a machine at the tannery that scans the surface area of each hide. They
use square meters as the way of measuring and pricing the hides.

The Finest Cowhide Rugs
You have several quality cowhide rugs. Also we have animal print cowhide rugs.
Each custom cowhide rug has a different name: the brindle colored cowhides
are the most wanted, followed by a red and white cowhide.
Most of our cowhide comes from Argentina, Brazil or Peru, these
3 countries produce the best and the most cowhides in the world.
They are available in 2 sizes: medium and large.
medium size 5'x7' and large size 6'x 7.5'. No two cowhides look the same.
Cowhide Rug care
Water, soap and a sponge will take care of the most problems but do not
soak the leather backing.
Most of natural colored cowhides come from Brazil. When selecting your cowhide
rug, made sure you've seen every options such color, quality and sizes.
These cowhides make great area rugs, tapestries and also are often sold to
interior decorators for upholstering furniture, wall hangings and pillows .

Most of the cowhide rugs have a beatifull pattern and very rich colors.
One of my best has black, dark chocolate and chocolate brown spots on a
white background. The white areas are full of small speckles.
This hide rug is a summer cowhide and the haircoat is silky and smooth
with a shine that makes it appear to be wet.
This cow hide rug will be perfect to cover a furniture or as a floor rug or
wall-hanging, western decor, or at home or in a log cabin, or an urban chic

The rugs we usually sell measure approximately 6 ft x 7 ft or
approximately 45 square feet.
We've made several attempt to get pictures that show the accurate color

The tanning process

FLAYING

SALTING

Getting the final leather characteristics that are not obtainable by a single
tanning.
DRUM DYEING
coloring in water in the drum, a dyeing penetrating in the cross section of
the leather to avoid clear cuts in the edges.
FINISHING
Aniline finishing is used for the best leathers
GRADING
The last selection is made solely by defects in the grain side.
MEASURING
we measure the surface of each cowhide and then they are packed in bundle of
06, 12 or 24 cowhides.
Cowhide Care
The care of conservation required is not difficult.
Above all, should be avoided marks or more deep wrinkles, because it begins
to damaged the hides.
Stuffing inside the hide long and well dry straw of cereals, or virutas small
or cut role in you throw thin. It is precise that the backfill be carried out
conscientiously, and thus the hide will appear smooth completely and will
be presented smooth and without the smaller fold.
Introducing in the cowhides, when is tender, a rod of flexible wood,

About the Quality of the Cowhides
Most of the United States importers of cowhides rely on overseas tanneries
to select the hides. It is necessary to have a lot of experience and lots of
time to select cow hides.
We sell only two types of hides: premium quality and show quality.
Does exist anothers types of cowhides, it is possible to select them in 6 or
more grades, depends on how pick you want to be.
- Premium cowhide means good quality and medium size. They're used for home decoration and gifts.
- Show quality grade means a very good quality cowhide, one of a kind. They
are the best you can find. Those are the cowhide we sell the most.
