The 2006 Bond Movie Tournament Official Release JANUARY 23, 2006 -- Due to the success of the 2004 Bond Movie Tournament, the previously postponed 2006 edition willtake place before year's end. Tournament founder and board member "Jack Wade" has decided to stage the 2006 version along with cooperation from BondMovies.com webmaster "thuffner." Dates for the tournament are yet to be determined. The 2006 Tournament will be met with a major change in the seeding process. Instead of a simple ranking of the films to determine which division each film will be placed, a weighted points system will be used in order to support different results. For each movie, board members will distribute ten points in each of the following categories: (1) entertainment value--how entertaining it is to view the film; (worth 10%) (2) acting performances--quality of acting of the actors/actresses; (worth 20%) (3) post-production credits--based on editing, special effects, music, etc.; (worth 10%) (4) plot strength--is the plot strong/believeable/well-written/etc.; (worth 30%) (5) "Bond Factor"--are there ingredients of a successful Bond film? (worth 30%) For example, let's look at how a person ranked From Russia With Love and Goldfinger. From Russia With Love gets 6, 8, 5, 8, 9. Goldfinger gets a 9, 6, 7, 8, and 9. The formula would work like this: FRWL: (6 x 0.1) + (8 x 0.2) + (5 x 0.1) + (8 x 0.3) + (9 x 0.3) = 7.8 GLFR: (9 x 0.1) + (6 x 0.1) + (7 x 0.1) + (8 x 0.3) + (9 x 0.3) = 7.3 Although Goldfinger had more points altogether than From Russia With Love, From Russia With Love would be ranked higher because it had better scores in the higher weighted categories. The other aspects of the 2004 Tournament will remain the same. Voting will take place over a span of two days for each match. The matches will be open to voting on the message boards and also a poll on the BondMovies.com homepage. There are currently no changes from the 2004 tournament in the rules or voting process. This may be subject to change. Stay tuned to BondMovies.com for more news!
