III.   Handling Public Comments

Public comments and complaints are an issue every major organization has to deal with.  A well-handled complaint can turn an adversary into a supporter.  A complaint that is handled badly will fester, and the unhappy person will communicate his or her feelings with others in the community.  A good, user-friendly method for accepting and responding to citizen input is essential.

It is recommended that a toll-free phone number and an e-mail address be supplied and publicized.  "Red tape" should be minimized and citizen profiles built so that repeat calls can be briefer.

It is recommended that the USMC respond real time by contacting Bogue Field immediately to resolve an SOP violation if it exists.  The citizen should be called/e-mailed back with the action taken.
