Gary Hudson, developer of the Roton vehicle, wrote me this:
Bevin and I actually did a number of very similar designs around five years ago; it turns out that the mechanical problems are fairly severe and dissuaded us from going further. We are working on something related right now, but I'm afraid I can't say much more. Maybe in a month or so; check back.
