I am a person of varied interests. While some of my hobbies and interests are seasonal, others are as the mood strikes and time permits.
I have always been an avid reader and prolific writer. I like to read from each genre, but especially books by Newfoundland authors, biographies, poetry, psychology and self help books. When I relax I like to read some fiction - a little mystery, romance and inspiration.
Some of my writing can be found in such publications as Reflections, Good Tidings, Downhomer, Christmas in the Country, I Love Cats magazine, Word (WANL Newsletter), FellowScript (InScribe Newsletter), 53 North, Voices of Labrador, Them Days magazine, The Salt and Light and An Anthology of Poetry. The Labradorian newspaper carried my bi-weekly feature column called InterView for a year and I have had a song recorded, and several commentaries and selections of poetry aired on CBC Radio. Currently, I edit a quarterly newsletter called The Auxiliary News for the Labrador Health Centre Auxiliary, edit a semi-annual newsletter for the Newfoundland and Labrador Health Care Auxiliaries, write a regular column called That's Life for Labrador Life magazine, and have several works in progress.
As time permits, I like to play in the kitchen - I especially like to bake. When I watch my favourite TV program, Here and Now, I like to let my creative juices flow. At any particular time I usually have quilting, crocheting, plastic canvas, cross-stitch and/or knitting projects on the go. Some of my crafts have been sold at various stores around town while others have been gifts to family and friends.
Sometimes I hide away in my creative room where do acrylic painting or ceramics when I'm not sewing, reading, writing or working on the computer.
I enjoy gardening in season and usually keep a variety of houseplants all year round. A quick glimpse around shows me more than 30 houseplants at the present.
In season I like to walk and ride my bike outdoors. I like to take pictures and as a treat watch a good movie. I like movies than are based on a true story, romantic comedies and stories than make me cry.
My volunteer repertoire includes the senior citizen's home, the church, the school, the library, the Terrington Consumers Co-operative Board and the hospital.
I enjoy all kinds of music except rap and acid rock, and dabble with the keyboard. I have learned to read music, but the natural ability to play by air belongs to my husband. |
