| A man bought a house, lived in it for a few months, then sold it. He bought another house, lived in it then sold it too. He did this five times, then at last, he settled down in the sixth house he bought. Someone asked why he moved house so often. He explained as follows. The first house had a nice view. The second house had a view and a fountain. The third house had a view, a fountain and nice stones. The fourth house had a view, a fountain, nice stones and fruit trees. The fifth house had a view, a fountain, nice stones, fruit trees, and many flowers The view appeals to the sense of sight, the fountain to the sense of sound, the stones to the sense of touch, the fruit trees to the sense of taste and the flowers to the sense of smell. So why did you move to the sixth house? someone else asked. The sixth house has all those things, too, but something else I cant explain. Like a sixth sense. It feels as if it faces the right direction. Something like the Chinese call feng shui. Similarly, when people communicate, for business, social reasons, etc. some things are necessary for satisfying conversation. First, the subject must be interesting (this is like a view or sense of sight). The words they use should be pleasant and stimulating (like the sense of sound). The movement in the talk should be well paced, not too slow, not too fast (like a sense of touch). The talk should be of good taste (like the sense of taste). The place should have a good atmosphere (like the sense of smell). And finally, there should be some feeling between the participants, some kind of chemistry (the sixth sense). |
