When computer users send email, it is sometimes dificult to understand their mood. They therefore expressing feelings using symbols. These symbols, or icons, is called emoticons (emotion plus icon). For example, a colon, than a hyphen then closing bracket [ :-) ] denotes a smiling face or that the writer is happy. Another example is a colon following by a hyphen then a opening bracket [:-( ] showing the writer is sad or annoyed. Japanese use different symbols express emotions in their email messages. For example the Japanese smiling face is writen as an opening bracket, a dash and a closing bracket ( _ ). |
