Feng shui, called geomancy in English, may defined as

the Chinese art of planning a harmonious environment. One

example is that you should not be able see through a house from

the front door because of good forces can pass through. Another

principle is that stairs not should end at the front door or wealth

will flow out. A beam crosses a bed increases the chance of injury,

while lengthways it meaning separation or divorce. About 50% of

Taiwanese believing in these principles and 80% in Hong

Kong. Chinese settling in California are starting build houses

based on feng shui principles nowadays.
