Language Learning
Kenneth Hale was professor of linguistics at MIT and could converse in about 50 or 60 languages. He learned from listending to native speakers and thought that about 10 or 15 minutes was sufficient to pick up the essentials of a new language. He suggested that you begin by focusing on vocabulary such as parts of the body and then progressing to grammar. He said he picked up the basics of Japanese by watching the English subtitles of a Japanese language film. And although common wisdom suggests thatafter the age of 12, the ability to learn another language declines, he began from high school learning several languages at once.
