How to 05: Growing plants

Planting seeds

1. Prepare pots, peat moss, plastic bag, water and seeds.
2. It's best to use peat moss as a growing medium because garden soil contains acteria which can kill seedlings.
3. Put some peat moss into a plastic bag with water and shake it well so the peat moss absorbs the water.
4. Put the peat moss into pots.
5. Make a hole a centimeter deep in the peat moss in each pot.
6. Then put two or three seeds in each hole and cover them.
7. Keep in a warm place.

Water hyacinths

1. Water hyacinths are bulbs which are planted in December.
2. They can be grown in water.
3. Fill a suitable-sized cup with water.
4. Put in a little plant food.
5. If the neck of the cup is too large, you can stick toothpicks
into the bulb to keep it out of the water.
6. Put the cup in a dark place until the roots develop.
7. Then put it in a sunny sheltered spot when the shoots come up.
8. Blooms appear in March.
