Editor's Take

A coworker of mine first introduced me to Rusted Root's music sometime in 1997. She let me borrow her "When I Woke" album and told me "It's a little different but I like them alot". Their music was definately different than the music I usually listen to. I remember thinking that the music was tribal with an electric boost and felt that these were a group of highly talented musicians. Their music has brought the most ancient type of musical expression back into popular culture. Times when music seemed to have a particular meaning and purpose. Rusted Root has allowed me to broaden my perspective on music and have a better understanding and interest in other cultures.

I had the good fortune of seeing Rusted Root at Woodstock - shortly before their current stoppage of playing together as a band. They were the only band that I would commit to the 1.5+ mile walk to the west stage and it was well worth it. My belief that this was a group of talented musicians was reinforced by their incredible performance. I hope we have not seen the last of the band playing together and I encourage everyone not to miss an opportunity. Some of the members are out on the road sharing their solo works and we hope to catch some  of them.
