SRV's music found me in the early to mid 1980's. My first time seeing SRV actually perform was on an Austin City Limits show featuring The Fabulous Thunderbirds and Stevie Ray Vaughan and Double Trouble. (Thank You PBS!!) This was the first time I could see and feel the energy of his talent. Head bowed under his hat throughout most of the show, suddenly he sets the hat on the mic and proceeds to play behind his head - Without Missing a Chord!!!!
My first live performance came on 8/23/86 at the New York State Fair Fairgrounds near Syracuse, New York. The show had to stop because of a storm with winds that blew the rain sideways. SRV rode the storm out and showed his appreciation by cranking out what seemed to be another full show. There was nothing better than being at an SRV show while feeling the summer air and drinking an ice cold beverage. As you experienced his talent, you knew you were in the presence of greatness.
I saw SRV and Double Trouble in the summer or 1990 for the last time at the Finger Lakes Performing Arts Center, near Canandaigua, New York. They were first on the bill with Joe Cocker which made the show even greater. It was shortly thereafter that SRV passed on.
