Providing aspiring amateurs on a limited budget with a step-by-step track-to-run-on by publishing books and booklets that are based on the simple mathematics of grade 8, secondary school: the theorem of Pythagoras and the trigonometrically ratios of sine, cosine, and tangent. The system replaces the archaic, confusing offset tables which are the prime source of many mistakes, and which make the lofting a tedious process, with a few simple calculations on a secondary school pocket calculator.

In The DORYBOOK, the late John Gardner stated on page 43 that the sheer of a Dory was based on a "natural" curve. By definition this means: "a part of a circle (arc)." He stopped there and did not elaborate further. This remark prompted me to research the designs of these hard chined hulls. The books are the results of these efforts that started in 1975.
