The fastest, easiest, and cheapest way to find out if you would like to build your own
boat is by making a 25 inch (63.5 cm) cardboard scale model. It takes six to eight hours,
and costs about $15.00 dollars in material.Building such a model will give you a clear
idea of the kind of work that is involved in constructing the real thing.
If you are happy with what you do, and with the result, enlarge the cardboard templates
six times, and make them of plywood. You end up with a 12½-foot, lightweight skiff that
is easy to car-top, has cost but a fraction of the price of a new boat, and will give you
and your family a lot of pleasure.
