Random Acts of Mindlessness
Random ramblings of a MAWG (Middle Aged White Guy)
I hate to have to be the one to tell you...
...but under an Obama administration, this Middle-Aged White Guy (MAWG) will feel the need to close ranks and shut down all discretionary expenditures starting January 1, 2009.

His phrase "we're just going to spread the wealth around" is targeted directly at MAWGs like me.

I have been working my ass off since I graduated from college in 1979. I got married, got a job as soon as I arrived in Georgia, and have been humping it for nearly 30 years.

We have lived by the rules, below or at our means, have raised two fine young men, are caring for family, and are finally in a position to find some comfort in the (fading) American dream.

My gut, and the handwriting on the wall, is telling me that our place in life is about to come under attack.

I will admit to making a mistake with my vote once in life. I was in college, it was my first chance to vote, and there was a Governor running from Georgia. He was said to be different, not a Washington insider, and would bring change to a nation longing for change after the turmoil of Vietnam and the Nixon years. Sound familiar?

By the time I graduated from college in 1979, inflation was running rampant, interest rates were over 20%, gas was in short supply, and American's were being held hostage by terrorists.

It's nearly 30 years later, and I'm realizing that the people likely to decide this election were either not born during the Carter years or were far too young to remember just how bad it was.

The American dream can still be realized, but any attempt to further "spread the wealth around" from those of us working to earn it will ultimately bring repercussions from which this country may not recover.

There is much sacrifice in any measure of success, and there are no shortcuts.

Please share your thoughts with someone who needs to hear them...there may still be time.
