THE MILLENNIUM--

When people think of the millennium, they imagine the future to come. Advanced technology has made everyone's lives easier, but is it possible to live without it? In the past, mankind did not rely on the telephone or computers. In the present, we find it hard to live without the things that make our lives so convenient. Now, there is only one question: what will the future bring?

Before we had motor vehicles, computers, or even the telephone, there was the abacus and the wheel. There wasn't a Wendy's waiting down the street, and there certainly wasn't a gas station on the corner to fuel up the family car. People hunted for their food and made a living on Mother Nature's resources. What may seem like an archaic and inconvenient way of living to people today was actually an everyday routine to people in the past.

At last, man has discovered technology useful enough to aid society in their everyday lives. No longer do we rely on an abacus to answer our math problems; we simply turn on a calculator and there it is. An easier way of transportation has been ofund, and few people hunt for their food anymore (unless it's at the local grocery store). Communication takes merely seconds over phone lines, and instant messaging on computers is even faster. Storytelling and family time is practically a thing of the past now that we have malls, movie theaters, video games, and CDs.

After the year 2000, what can man expect? Maybe someone will discover a way of making everything solar-powered. Perhaps computers will become even more advanced, allowing people to see whom they are communicating with. One might wonder if an insanely powerful type of communication is to be discovered, quicker than the telephone and even instant messaging! Now that the millennium has come, the possibilities are endless.

Eventually, man will discover new ways of making our lives even easier. However, we must remember that we can create our own future. Maybe someday there will be flying machines--it's all up to us. Meanwhile, in the present, man will continue to become smarter. Only time will tell what the future holds.
