Hi, I am a single mom of two wonderful little boys ages 4 and 9. My oldest, Dakota suffers from ADHD, learning disabilities, and some other problems which have yet to be determined. On my quest for knowledge to help understand and help my son better I have decided to become a parent-child advocate-mentor. I will begin my training very soon, hopefully with this training I can help him and you better. This site is for the parents, family and friends that love someone that has disorders. I have been doing a lot of research on many kinds of disorders and disabilities and I have yet to find a place where parents can get together and chat, ask questions, blow off some steam or what not. I hope that this site can do that. It is neutral ground. No one will think the worst of you for what you say or ask. We all need a shoulder from time to time and I am here for that as well. We as parents all need advice, and help. I hope that we can all work together to make our world a better one and make our kids lives better.

A Little Info.. DID You Know....that if you are a low income family, most kids that have multiple or severe disorders can qualify for SSI benifits. If they have a disorder that interfeers with school your child should have an (IEP) Individual Education Plan. The IEP will help your child receive the extra help that they need and diserve all through school. There is even a 504 plan that is for collage students that does the same thing. If you would like to find out if your child can get this kind of help, you should discuss this with your childs teacher,or counsler. If you make a request for the school to do a (IEE) Independent Education Evaluation at their expense they Have to do it.This evaluation will determine what kind of help your child will need. Thus it will tie into the IEP. The schools do not like to do these test because they are expensive. But make sure when you request it, that you put it in writing and keep a copy for yourself. Always leave a paper trail. If you make the request and nothing happens you can go to your school board. I also recommend that you contact your local MPACT It is a parent advocate org. , they help with training and information and are known to go to bat for your kids. I got of the topic... If you think your child might qualify for SSI, I suggest talking to your family doctor first then file an application. The process is not hard, but it looks like it. I just recently went through the process myself with success.

Here is a little about me and mine. Like I said in the begining i'm a single mom with two wonderful boys. Dylan is my youngest at the age of 4 now, he is very bright and all boy. I swear he is going on 40. He wants answers to everything and he wants them now.But what kid doesn't. lol My oldest son is the one that gave me the inspiration to do all of this. He is Dakota. He is 9, will turn 10 this summer. He suffers from ADHD and takes Adderall xr twice a day. He also has learning disabilites. He is in the third grade and on a first grade level due to mainly the ADHD. His doctor and I are pretty sure that he might be bi-polar or one of them other disorders that only doctors can say. lol We are getting ready to have testing done in a couple of weeks to hopefully figure it out. He has a very hard life ahead of him, and we could both use all the help we can get. Every day is a struggle in our home, as i'm sure you are aware of, if you have disabled children. Living with these disorders is not only hard on the person that has them, but on the entire family. Our goal is to find a way to live with it successfully. I hope that by creating this, that it not only helps my family, but yours as well. So.. be patient with me, as this is the first time doing anything like this. While the site hopefully grows and expands, I hope that everyone will be able to add something to it so that we all become one big family that we and our kids can all count on. Please feel free to make as many comments and recomendations that you want. I would love to add your insight to this page so that we can all work together to make our world a better one. Thanks, Jeanette Reed
