The heavy red velvet curtains
fell apart in the middle just enough to let the end of summer sun come dancing
through sending a shard of bright light across the bedroom and across the face
of Kendell Smith as she lay in the oversized bed alone. She flinched slightly,
groaning and putting her face in the pillow. She had had a long night and didn’t
fancy getting out of the bed just quite yet. She opened one eye with a grunt and
looked toward the digital alarm clock which flashed on and off in red informing
her that she had slept in yet again. With a loud sign she closed her eyes before
pushing herself up so that she was sitting up in bed. The rubbed her eyes and
looked at the clock again and then smiled. Any other morning she would she would
have just stayed in bed but today was special. Today was the day her Father’s
estate was officially signed over to her. Her father had been dead for months
now but because of loop hole in the legal proceedings she had to wait to
officially become the heir to the empire her father had built. She pushed
herself around and put her two feet flat on the floor. Her bed attire was what
was to be expected from Kendell, instead of a lacy negligee she had opted for a
long Led Zeppelin t-shirt which stopped mid thigh revealing her long tanned
legs. She yawned, contemplating how long it would take her to get ready and get
to the courthouse so that she could be officially named sol heir to the Luciano
millions.
Her day dream of riches was rudely interrupted when the door to her large
bedroom swung open and a young girl walked in with her hands on her hip and a
frown on her pink lips. The girl, who was no older than nineteen, wore oversized
sunglasses and Chanel sundress, finished off by the frown across her face.
Girl: “Kendell! Why the hell aren’t you ready? You
where supposed to meet me an hour ago?”
Kendell sighed deeply, the last thing she needed
was a disgruntled teenager annoying her on the day she became a millionaire. The
girl’s name was Brooke Scott and unfortunately she wasn’t just a random nutcase
who had broken in to Kendell’s home. Brooke was the daughter her father’s second
wife. Kendell’s mother had barely been in the ground and her father was walking
up the aisle again with his secretary. It was almost the organised crime lord’s
code of conduct. It looked bad that the head of the Luciano family’s wife had
killed herself so to take the attention away from the morbid suicide of his wife
he decided to marry again, although it was almost a financial arrangement rather
than love at first site. Brooke’s mother had been power hungry and thirsty for
money and although Kendell had grown up resenting her she had learned so much
from her that she used to her own advantage as the years passed on.
Brooke was the American girl next door, perfect complexion, long blonde hair and
award winning smile. She was the cheerleader and the prom queen you’d have
expected her to be. Of course she still had a lot of the same traits as Kendell
mostly because of her money grabbing whore of a mother passing on her genes.
Brooke had been the girl who would try sleep with Kendell’s boyfriends when she
was just thirteen. She craved the attention, the spot light and the materials
that seemed to have been showered on Kendell, after all Kendell was her father’s
only child and Brooke was the spawn of a one night stand between her whore
mother and a ‘performer’, loosely translated into ‘stripper’.
Kendell Smith: “Who the hell let you in?”
Brooke: “I still have a key. This used to be my
home, remember?”
Kendell Smith: “This was never your home, you just lodged here.”
Brooke: “Whatever, we have to get the courthouse and
sort out this whole money issue.”
Kendell Smith: “There’s nothing to sort out, the money is mine Brooke you and
you’re mother are wasting your time coming today.”
Brooke: “That man was the closest thing to a father
I have ever had. He raised me!”
Kendell Smith: “You mean his money raised you. He had no interest in you as a
person, you know it as well as I do so wipe away those crocodile tears dear,
they won’t work on me, save them for the courthouse.”
Brooke: “Well I had to live with you for nearly ten
years so I have to be entitled to at least two million.”
Kendell Smith: “Don’t hold your breath. The Lawyer already confirmed that you’re
not on the will.”
Brooke: “Well the why has there been a delay in the
inheritance? My mom said that it’s because there’s another heir to the
inheritance and estate.”
Kendell chose not to answer, instead standing up
and going over to the large window on the far side of the room and pulling open
the heavy curtains letting the sun seep into the room and devour everything in
its yellow glow. She had originally wanted to go to the I heritance hearing on
her own but Brooke’s mother had insisted that they went as a ‘family’ in her
father’s memory which she could only assume was a tactic to win sympathy and
possibly a nice little nest egg for her and her bastard child. She would take
pleasure in watching them both find out that they weren’t getting a cent more
than the amount that was originally discussed. Kendell opened the wardrobe and
pulled out a knee length Dior dress which she slipped her long legs into and
pulled up over her hips before turning away from Brooke and pulling the Led
Zeppelin t-shirt up and over her head, replacing it with the black material of
the dress which clung to her a little too provocatively for such an early hour
of the morning. There was no time for a quick shower, she was already well over
an hour late, so instead she brushed her teeth quickly in the adjacent bathroom
and ran a brush through her tossed hair before coating her lips in red and
applying little make up. Even without the effort she still looked stunning,
natural beauty was a gift from God. She slipped her feet into expensive sandals
and grabbed the car keys from the bed side locker.
Kendell Smith: “Come on then, let’s go.”
Brooke: “…About time.”
Kendell just looked at Brooke and sniggered,
before turning and walking out the door as Brooke scrambled behind her trying to
keep up with her long eloquent strides. They stepped outside the large house
into the New York summer heat. Kendell pressed the button on the car keys
resulting in a ‘beep beep’ from the yellow Lamborghini on the far side of the
drive way. As the doors lifted Kendell looked towards Brooke who looked at the
half a million dollar car with resentment rising up in her eyes. Kendell
couldn’t keep the smirk from her face, watching Brooke get bent out of shape
because she would never be her gave her reason to gloat. Kendell slid herself
into the driver’s seat motioning to Brooke to get into the car. Brooke was like
a child in a toy store as she fiddled around with the inside of the car
accidentally opening the dash and sending a small plastic back of white powder
tumbling out on to her lap.
Brooke: “I see you’re living the high life. Father
would be rolling in his grave.”
Kendell Smith: “First of all, he’s not your father, your father was a man named
Fabio who got his cock out for dollar bills and second of all MY father is too
busy rotting in hell to care about what I spend my inheritance money on.”
Brooke: “Whatever Kendell, you think you’re better
than everybody else, you need to star growing up.”
Kendell Smith: “Sure I do.”
Brooke: “I mean how old are you now? Twenty four and
all you do is snort coke and fuck strangers.”
Kendell Smith: “Living the dream.”
Brooke: “If that’s what you want from life. Speaking
of which what happened with the last bit of cock you where indulging in?”
Kendell took her eyes of the road just long
enough to raise her eyebrow and look at Brooke quizzically. She had no idea what
she was talking back and frankly was a little weirded out that her little
“sister” had been stalking her.
Kendell Smith: “Are you following me around Brookey? Need some sex advice? Play
with their balls they’re into that.”
Brooke: “Trust me Kendell if I could get Danny
Raymond into bed I’d do more than that. If I had a man like that in my bed he
wouldn’t be getting away that easily, you obviously where doing something a
little wrong.”
Kendell Smith: “Take note little girl, I never do anything wrong and Danny
Raymond was just one of those things to pass the time. I’ll never be the
Moniques of the World who want to settle down and start a family. I’m not part
of that little house on the prairie mentality.”
Brooke: “Oh really?”
Kendell Smith: “Yep. Really, my life is drinking, sniffing, gigging and
wrestling there’s no space in there for settling down.”
Brooke: “And here I was thinking that wrestling was
just another way for you to fuck good looking men. I guess there’s more to this
little career choice than meets the eye.”
Kendell Smith: “Not that it’s any of your business but I started wrestling
professionally for the love of the sport and for no other reason.”
Brooke: “Well just so you know I’ll be watching
you’re match on Monday with a Curt what’s-his-name t-shirt on.”
Kendell Smith: “Oh Brooke, always following losers.”
Brooke: “Well Curt seems to think he has your
number, I was watching his thing on television the other night. I wouldn’t
usually watch that kind of tripe but ever since you got involved in the whole
wrestling circle I’ve been riveted by it. I mean anything that can get you away
from a mirror long enough to concentrate on somebody else must be pretty
amazing.”
Kendell Smith: “Curt can think what he wants to think, the fact is however I’m
the better person stepping in to this ring. I have beaten wrestlers that would
wipe the floor with someone as mediocre as Curt Evan’s I mean even Icon beat the
guy.”
Brooke: “Wait… didn’t you lose your last match to
him?”
Kendell Smith: “Lose? No. Not win? Yes. It was under special circumstances which
I’m not going to discuss with a snot nosed teenager, but I wasn’t myself that
night. I wasn’t in the right frame of mind physically or mentally to take him on
one hundred percent but I will be when I take on Curt on Monday night.”
Brooke: “Teenager? I’m twenty next week!”
Kendell Smith: “In my eyes Brooke you’ll always be the thirteen year old I
caught trying on my bras.”
Brooke: “I may be trying on that pretty belt of
yours, or Curt’s since you stole it.”
Kendell Smith: “I didn’t steal it, I saved it. Mediocre players like Curt
shouldn’t even be given the chance to put their hands on such a thing. I mean
the man is terrified to step into the ring with a woman, he may not have said
that but it’s true. He shouldn’t be ashamed by it though so many men have been
in the same position as he is, terrified that their pride will be dinted by a
woman. The guy only barely won the title at Midsummer Nightmare and now a week
later he expects to step back into the ring against me and take home a title he
claims is rightfully his? I mean I hate to pull this card but, doesn’t he know
who I am? I’m the woman that stepped into the ring against both Icon and Stryfe
and took home the belt after just a couple of weeks. I mean Icon and Stryfe, two
men who have done a hell of a lot more in UWF than he has. Thinking you can
waltz in to a ring a beat me is the rock many a wrestler has perished on. I have
sat at home doing nothing for the last five months except outline how I will
once again become a champion, how I will once again hold the title and
officially call it mine, I’m not going to sit back and have those dreams taken
from me because an over the hill wrestler wants his fifteen minutes of fame. He
should be going after the second rate Uncensored title and leave the Adrenaline
title to the real stars.”
Brooke: “Over confident much?”
Kendell Smith: “It’s not over confidence when it can be backed up, but what
would you know, you’ve spent your life sponging off the success of others. Not
only am I a better wrestler than Curt but his mock determination comes no where
close to the determination that has built up in me over the past few months.”
Brooke: “Just don’t fuck him that seems to be what
threw you off in Madison Square Gardens is it not?”
It was Brooke’s turn to be smug now, looking at
Kendell with mock concern that still could not hide the smirk on her pretty
face. Ever since she was a child she had loved to get under Kendell’s skin and
paying attention to things happening in Kendell’s personal life gave her the
ammunition she needed to wipe the smile from Kendell’s face which gave her
pleasure beyond comprehension. Rather than answer any more of Brooke’s prying
questions Kendell flicked the switch on the side of the steering wheel filling
the car with the sounds of ‘Placebo’ in hopes of drowning out Brooke’s annoying
voice as they pulled into the East Hampton village where Kendell’s family
lawyer’s office resided.
Brooke: “About time, I thought I was going to die in
this car. You drive like a maniac.”
Kendell Smith: “Well when you have the money I have you can afford to drive any
way you want, but of course you wouldn’t understand that.”
Kendell pulled the car into a parking space just
in front of the large office building and shut off the engine grabbing her small
clutch purse and pushing herself up out of the low Lamborghini seats. She
slipped the sunglasses from her hair down on to her face and watched as Brooke
struggled to keep her composure as she got out of the car. Rather than lend her
step sister a hand she watched and smiled until Brooke eventually got to her
feet, brushing herself down and trying to regain he composure before trying to
slam the car door. Kendell turned on her heels and began to make her way into
the large reception area.
The lobby of the building was large and marble
and consisted of many desks, one for each business. Kendell glanced around for
second trying to find the desk of her lawyer’s firm before making her way over
with Brooke in tow and explaining to the receptionist that she why she was there
and why she was late. The receptionist let her go ahead to the lawyer’s office.
After two minutes in an elevator listening to Brooke continuously go on about
how her hair do really accentuated the shape of her face while she stared in the
mirrors they eventually reached the lawyer’s office. Kendell pushed open the
door. Behind the desk sat Anthony Vercetti, he had been the Luciano families
Lawyer for as long as she could remember he was pushing sixty and his bad comb
over only made him look older. In front of the desk sat Livia Scott, her step
mother. Her skin looked aged from the mountains of make up she wore and the
extensive sun bed use. She looked stereotypically Italian except for her
bleached blonde hair which made her look like Victoria Gotti.
Livia Scott: “Hi Kendell, you’re late we’ve been
sitting here waiting for you. It’s good to see you again; it’s been soooo long
honey.”
The fake sweetness in her voice was almost
sickening as Kendell just nodded in the direction of Livia and grunted ‘hello’
under her breath before making her way across the room to the chair facing Mr.
Vercetti who extended his large hand t her with a smile on his sweaty over
weight face.
Anthony Vercetti: “Nice to see you again Kendell, you
are getting prettier as the days go on. I remember when you where just a little
girl clinging to Daddy’s leg.”
Livia Scott: “She was such a pretty child and a
Daddy’s girl. The apple of her fathers eye but she never really appreciated it.
Always been a loner this one, never seemed to make friends easily, always kept
to herself, very like her father I’m sure you’ll agree Mr. Vercetti.”
Anthony Vercetti: “I’m not sure about that Livia but
she certainly has her mother’s large blue eyes.”
That shut Livia up. She hated speaking about
Kendell’s mother, Kendell could only assume this was because she had tried to
step into her mothers shoes for over eighteen years and failed miserably.
Anthony Vercetti: “Well we finally can get the ball
rolling on the inheritance. The paper work has been all done and dusted and it’s
just a matter now of splitting the assets among Mr. Luciano’s family and close
friends as he had wished.”
Kendell Smith: “Great, where do I sign, I’d like to get out of here as soon as
possible.”
Anthony Vercetti: “Well that’s the thing Kendell; it’s
not as simple as that. There have been new developments in the will and although
you signed originally for the inheritance back in April well, things have
changed slightly.”
Kendell Smith: “Changed? How could they have changed?”
Anthony Vercetti: “Well after looking closely at the
documents your father left behind it seems you are not the sole heir to his
estate although you still receive the majority of the assets thirty five percent
of it will still be going elsewhere.”
Kendell looked at Livia who couldn’t hide the
glee on her face at the possibility of gaining more money from the death of her
father. Livia had already received well over the million mark when the
inheritance was first declared but that was without the assets and the
businesses which made up the majority of the Luciano estate. Livia had spent the
last eighteen years bleeding Kendell’s father for money and it looked like it
was all about to pay off. Kendell glanced over her shoulder at Brooke who sat on
a chair at the far side of the room flashing Kendell her smug smile.
Anthony Versetti: “Mr. Luciano wishes where to have
his estate divided sixty five percent to thirty five percent between his
children, a wish that he stated very clearly in his will.”
Livia Scott: “You’re father always had a big heart
Kendell, he always looked upon Brooke like she was his own.”
Anthony Versetti: “I’m sorry Mrs. Luciano but that’s
not what I meant. Mr. Luciano left none of his estate to Brooke; he left it
divided between his two biological children.”
Kendell looked at Livia whose mouth dropped, a
look of disgust now replacing the glee which had consumed her just moments
before.
Livia Scott: “There must be a mistake, he only has
one biological child and that’s Kendell.”
Kendell Smith: “She’s right Anthony; I don’t have any brothers or sisters.”
Anthony Vercetti: “I’m not sure how to tell you this
Kendell but you have a brother, a younger brother. Your father had done some
things in his life time he wasn’t proud of and didn’t speak of often but coming
towards the end of his life he reflected in his regrets and tried to turn things
around. It’s why the proceedings took so long; we had to use our resources to
find your younger half brother.”
Kendell Smith: “You’re kidding me…”
Anthony continued to speak as he flicked through the
pages of the file he held in his hands as he quoted legal mumbo jumbo to her.
Kendell jumped up from the chair and snatched the file from his hands much to
his dismay she began reading through the file.
Kendell Smith: “Wait, this here, this picture here, he’s my brother?”
Anthony Vercetti: “Sorry Kendell… that’s him.”
Kendell Smith: “But… I know him…. He’s in UWF…”
