MTV's Kurt Loder was on. " ---street Boys have officially broken up ---" Kevin reached for the controller on instinct, but couldn't actually change the channel. " ---Howie Dorough received the lead role for the upcoming sequel of Time Makers."
Good for him, Kevin thought, Howie always did like the acting biz.
The phone rang. Kevin walked to it and picked it up. "Hello, Richardson residence?"
A silence. "Kevin. Hey," Brian croaked softly.
"Hi, cous."
Brian shifted uncomfortably in Chelsea's van, "Is your mom around?"
"I think, lemme go see." Brian heard the click as the plastic of the phone hit the counter as Kevin put it down.
"Are you sure about this?" Chelsea asked him, regretting his decision. She was scared: Why was he going back? Didn't he want to get away from the memories?
"I'm sure, honey. We have a week or so bef--- Hi, Ann," he spoke into the cell phone again. "Fine. How 'bout you? That's good. We still on for next week's dinner?" was all Chelsea heard.
Chelsea grinned as his accent thickened the more he talked. She was used to it, having heard his accent before. But the more he said, the harder it was to hear.
"A'right then, Ann. See ya'll real soon, 'kay? Buh-bye!" He hung up and noticed his wife giggling, "What?"
"'See ya'll real soon, 'kay?" she mimicked him.
"Oh, like you've never slipped with your New Yorker accent?" he teased in defense. "'Ey! Watch where yer goin', jerk-off! I'm walkin' 'ere!'"
She laughed harder and slapped his shoulder. "Shut up."
"Flattery gets you nowhere, Mr. McLean," Sophia said, slyly.
He shrugged. "It was worth a shot...You from around here?"
"I'm from everywhere. My dad's business required a lot of traveling," she remembered, bitterly. "If you mean now, yes. Just ten minutes from here."
"Cool. I'm originally from West Palm Beach," he stated. "Got a job?"
"It's a crap part-time job. I'm still in college, so I can't get something better." She smiled. "What are you going to do now?"
"I haven't really thought about it. I might go solo, but it will take some time. And people might not like me."
"I'm sure they will like you."
He smiled. A new song came on. "Dance with me."
