chapter thirteen

An hour later, Nick stepped out of the shower, wrapping a towel around his waist. He wiped the mirror with his hand and looked at himself. Or at least he thought it was himself.

His hair was dark brown, no sign of his former blond locks.

He opened the contact box and carefully put them in.

Green eyes instead of blue.

"You ready, Nicky?" Katherine asked.

"Yeah, I gotta get dressed, but that's it." He walked out and saw Katherine.

She was truly an angel. Her hair was blond and cut a little past her ears. And she had hazel contacts. She smiled and watched him.

"Trying to catch flies, I see," she joked and clamped his mouth shut.

She went outside to pack the van. Nick went to his room and dressed. He took one last search around the house and locked up.

Are you ready Nick? she asked, puffing a breath out of her mouth, leaving a cloud in the air.

"Not really."

She took his hand and squeezed it. "We're going to Australia and everything will be fine."

"You promise?" he asked, sounding like a child unintentionally.

"I promise, Love," she said, kissing his hand.
