chapter seven

Lauren walked out of the Rickson Building, where Michael worked, feeling great. It was odd. Usually when you catch your boyfriend cheating with his busty blond secretary, you'd be pissed. Lauren was relieved. She now had an easier way to break up with him. Lauren had been plotting how she could say goodbye since she shut the front door of her house behind her.

Immediately after Lauren got in her car, she called Kevin and told him everything. His only response: a laugh and a "good for you."

"I think I'm gonna go clubbing with AJ tonight. It's been too long since I've been to anything resembling a night club and had a decent time."

"Don't get yourself into too much trouble, all right, Lauren?" Kevin said.

"Of course I won't. I'd never hear the end of it from you if I did."

"That's true. Bye now."

"Ciao."

Lauren drove herself to the nearest mall with a body full of adreneline and a wallet filled with money. She bought herself two new outfits, one of which she planned on wearing that night. Lauren picked up a medium fry at the McDonald's in the food court and went home.

Lauren called AJ and told him all about her and day and her plans. Of course he agreed and volunteered to pick her up. She said goodbye to him and started up the shower. Lauren turned on the radio in her room and blasted it. She undressed and jumped into the shower, singing along with whoever was on the radio. She hadn't heard AJ enter the house later on.

Lauren wrapped the towel around her tighter after she got out of the shower and wiped the fog off the mirror. She dried her hair and brushed it before walking to her room. She was hardly surprised when she found AJ propped up on her bed.

"Hey, man," she said, turning off the radio. "I hope you didn't snoop around for anything."

"Nope."

"Cigarettes are in the panty drawer for future references," Lauren said, rummaging through her closet.

"Man! I looked there!" AJ exclaimed.

Lauren laughed. She finally retrieved a pair of black strapped shoes. She found the bag full of her clothes and took out the tiny, sleek black part dress she bought earlier. She held it up so AJ could see it.

"Nice..." he approved.

She grinned and opened her drawer. She brought out a lace bra and matching panties and returned to the bathroom, where she dressed. While in there, she pulled up her brown hair in a messy bun and put on a little make-up. She walked back to her room, where she was met with an appreciate cat call. She smiled bashfully.

"They're gonna be all over you tonight, Lauren," AJ warned.

"Yeah, so?" She laced up one shoe, then the other.

"I'm just warnin' ya."

"Well, thanks," she replied. She stood up and pulled down the hem of her dress a little. "Ready?"

AJ adjusted the red hot cowboy hat on his head and grinned. He stood up, took her hand and said, "I was born ready.
