On the disk was Brian's phone number, among other things of importance.Hailey dialed the number, cursing Bently over and over again for all the grief he put on her.
"Hello?" a voice answered. Hailey was reminded of Tom when they had first met. He had a slight Southern drawl.
"Hello, this is Hailey Maxwell, am I speaking to Brian Littrell?"
"Yes. I've heard a lot of things about you. Your boss, Mr. Bently said you were the best person for the job."
Best person for the job? Hah, Bently was really stretching that one. Hailey made a note to strangle Bently with his own tie and demand for triple pay. The little bastard wouldn't win.
"Well, I'm flattered. I called to discuss our first meeting," she said routinely.
"Why don't we have it here?" Brian suggested.
"In Kentucky?" she asked, a little taken off-guard. Secretly, she wished that he'd reconsider. She hated to fly.
"Sure, I'll fly you out here. Besides you can get away from the Chicago scene and relax."
"That's awfully generous, but I can't allow that. we can discuss it over the ph-"
"No it's no trouble, really."
"I'll have to tell Percy -"
"Ah, forget him. I dealt with him already. He is a grumpy guy."
"When you get caught humping a prostitute and get divorced, you'll be the same as him."
"Wow, poor guy."
"No, feel sorry for the whores. After he quit, their monthly profit folded three times."
Brian laughed. "When should you fly here?"
"As soon as possible, I guess," she told him. What was she saying? No flying, no flying no flying...
"I'll send you today, if you'd like," he offered again.
Shit. "That's fine."
"I'll call you with the info, 'kay?"
"Alright. Bye."
