chapter nine - kiss me at midnight: present

Nick and Juliette had spent the whole day at Busch Gardens. He signed a few autographs for a few fans, and she waited patiently, smiling at every one that looked at her.

It had been 11:30 PM and the couple were still at the park. Only a few people were there, waiting for the midnight fireworks that they had every Tuesday. They had both forgotten about their conversation about virginity in the car, and just spent the time smiling at each other and holding hands. And to them, three and a half weeks seemed like a lifetime.

"This has been a great day. I've never been so close to you in my life. I never held your hand, never spent this much time with you by myself," Nick was saying. "I love it."

"Me too," Juliette replied, smiling at him. He stared off into the distance, not noticing it.

"It's almost midnight," he whispered, leaning closer to her. "Let's walk over to the bleachers." Juliette smiled.

"You're so cute," she said, looking up at him.

"I know I am," he smiled, looking down at her. "You're so small, Juliette. I never noticed it before," he said, holding her hand tighter. Their fingers were twined, and their hands swung back and forth and they walked slowly towards the bleachers.

"This is the perfect night that I've wished for since I was a little kid. Holding hands with my boyfriend, looking up at the stars late at night, and then kissing him at midnight with bright fireworks being lit up in the air. And now my wish has come true," she said, looking deeply into his eyes. He was silent, speaking only with the expression on his face and the look in his eyes. He put his arm around her and kissed her cheek.

"You're my only wish, Juliette," he whispered, looking at the stars.

"No one has ever said that to me before," she whispered back, still looking at him.

"The stars are beautiful tonight. I think it's cause I'm with you." He looked down at her, startled to see her looking back at him. He looked down at his watch. 11:54 PM.

"Ladies and gentleman, as you all know today is Tuesday, our special Fireworks Day! So cuddle up with your honey and hope that he or she isn't too worn out to kiss you at midnight. There are four more minutes until our show, so just sit patiently and wait!" A loud voice said. There was a spotlight on a short man in the center of a stage with black tights and a green velvet suit.

"Okay Robin Hood," Juliette whispered. Nick smiled and chuckled a little.

"I've never done this before," he said, changing the subject.

"Me neither. Brandon never did anything like this for me. All the guys I've dated treated me like trash, so that's why I haven't been in a relationship for so long," she replied.

"I will never treat you like trash, Juliette. You're too precious to me. I don't know how anyone could do that to a girl so beautiful like you. Not only your looks but your heart and personality. That's why I've admired you all these years," he said, brushing her hair back from her face.

"Oh, Nick. You're so sweet to me. I've never had anyone like you be-"

"Ladies and gentleman! It is now twelve o'clock! We will start our special show now! Countdown to the first light up! Five, four, three two, one!" The announcer interrupted. Suddenly, the sky lit up with sparks. It was a beautiful array of lighting. Juliette and Nick looked at each other.

"Kiss me at midnight, Nick," she whispered in his ear. He looked at her lips and licked his, leaning closer to hers. He slid his tongue out, trying not to attack her with it. She closed her eyes slowly, making the moment last forever in her memory. Wrapping her arms around his neck, she returned the kiss, making it more passionate. It was loud around them, couples sitting everywhere on either side of them, below them, above them. But it seemed like it was only the two of them in the entire universe, and that was all that mattered. They were together, kissing, and there was not a single thing that could stop them.
