chapter three - a trial in trust

Juliette picked up the phone when it rang for the second time. She had just finished writing in her diary, and thought it was going to be Brian calling her again.

"Hello?" She said into it, waiting for his voice to reply.

"Why did you hang up on me, Juli?" A sad Brian replied. She smiled, thinking about how cute he was.

"I'm sorry, B-rok, I really am! You were just pissing me offI mean, I don't love AJ as a boyfriend, you know that. I love him like my best friend that I've known ever since I was born. I don't understand why everyone thinks I'm in love with him," she said, walking down the stairs.

"Well, you are always with him, you always talk about him-"

"I do NOT always talk about him! Yes, I am always with him when I can be because we never get to spend any time together anymore," she interrupted.

"Just tell me how you feel about him, it'll make my day. You should trust me, baby, I trust you with everything."

"I knowit's just that I don't know how I feel about him. I'm so confusedI just don't know. I try to think that I love him as a best friend, but I'm starting to feel like I love him so much more. Brian, you have to swear on your life never to tell any of this to anyone," she replied, sighing.

"Cross my heart."

Juliette began to tell him everything about everything, which made him more interested in what she had to say. She felt so secure talking to him. It was like she spilled out all of her feelings, and being able to trust him.

"Juliette?" He asked, his voice soft with emotion.

"What?"

"You know you love me."

"Of course I do, Rok. You are one of my best friends. I can't resist loving you!" She began to cheer up, letting Brian take her on a wild ride of comedy.

***

AJ had been in his house, talking on the phone with Denise. It had been over two hours, and they just talked about everything that had been going on since they last talked to each other.

"How's Juliette?" She asked curiously.

"I don't know, really. She hasn't called, and she's been spending an awful amount of time talking to Brian. I wonder what is going on between them. Do you think they're gonna get together?" He replied, feeling a sense of longing for Juliette.

"I don't know. She's not the type of person who would go for Brian. They are the total opposites"

"But mom, you have to see the way they act around each other. They're both single, and I'm worried for Jules. I guess I don't want her getting hurt like Brandon hurt her," he interrupted, thinking about Juliette's past boyfriends.

"Maybe they aren't opposites, honey, but you shouldn't get in the way. If they want to get together, then let it be. Just don't step your foot in right away. Wait until you have evidence of something happening, all right?"

"I guess. I think they're just friends, though. But I'm starting to feel like she likes him as a friend more than she likes me as a friend. She's always talking to him about things, and then when I ask her what they were talking about, she just shrugs and says nothing."

"Maybe she just doesn't want you to know. There are some things that you don't have to know, Alex. You may be her best friend, but she doesn't need to tell you everything," she replied.

"Well, yeah, but I'm just worried that they're talking bad things about me."

"Listen, Alex. I'm sure nothing is happening, and you shouldn't worry about silly things. Call me when you get the chance, and talk to Juliette. Maybe you could sort things out. Now I have to go, so I'll talk to you later, baby. I love you."

"Love you too." They both hung up, and he immediately dialed Juliette's phone number.
