chapter eleven - the beginning of terror: 1997

"Jules, I have to talk to you! But I can't do it over the phone. Now, are you gonna come over or not!?" AJ begged. Juliette chuckled softly.

"Why can't you tell me over the phone?" She asked, laughter in her voice.

"I just can't, okay? Now I'm gonna hang up, and the next time I'll talk to you will be on my couch sipping some coke, all right? I don't want to hear another word unless you forgot how to get to my house and call me from your cell phone. Not another word." his voice was harsh, but he knew she wouldn't take it personally. It was just a little joke.

"Oh-"

"NOT ANOTHER WORD!" he interrupted clicking the off button on his phone. He smiled, feeling a sense of victory. She always gives up and does whatever he says. But little did he know that would be the last time he talked to her for a few weeks.

AJ waited and waited and waited for Juliette to come, but she never did. What was taking her so long? Did she really decide not to come? That wasn't like her. She knew he wanted to see her, so she would come to comfort him.

It had been an hour later, and he had been sitting on his couch, flipping the channels. He had been drinking my coke that he was supposed to be drinking next to her. Hers was on the table, watery from melted ice. And suddenly, the phone rang.

"Hello?" he answered, hoping it was Juliette. But it was his mom. She had been calling from work-her voice very sad.

"Alex" she began slowly.

"What, mom? Tell me," he replied calmly.

"Alex, she got in a serious car accident!" Denise blurted out, crying.

"Who got in a car accident, mom?" AJ asked frantically. This can't be happening to me, he thought. Not a month before a tour starts! If it's someone who I loveI wouldn't be able to even practice the dances right. Just knowing that someone is or was in the hospitalit's just too real for me right now.

"Juliette got in a severe car accidentshe's in the hospitalthe Florida HospitalI'm on my way thereI'll meet you there," she cried. AJ's eyes filled up with tears, threatening to fall down. He closed them, fighting them back. He felt like his heart had stopped beating, like everything in the world was gone.

"Oh my god. Oh my god! Okay, I'll meet you there." He slammed the phone down on the hook and ran to get his keys. He took them and flew out of the house like a jet.
