Mandatory Drug/Alcohol testing for U.I.L.
Athletic and Academic Activities and Extracurricular Programs A
student who participates in U.I.L. athletic and academic competition and
extracurricular programs is subject to mandatory drug/alhcohol testing
program. Testing will be done in accordance with accepted practices and
procedures as established by the testing laboratory affiliated with the
district. The testing parameters will be set at industry accepted
standards as defined by the National Institute for Drug Abuse(NIDA).
Sample collections will begin with all students particpating in U.I.L.
athletic and academic activities and extracurricular programs and
followed periodically on a random basis as generated by a computer
program. Student privacy will be protected to the maximum extent
possible during collection. Records of test results shall be kept
confidential and provided only to district administrators and personnel
responsible for administering program. First positive test
result:
- A test will be performs by the school approved drug testing
labratory to confirm initial results. The parent (or student, if the
student is an adult or married) will be notified of the results and
may have a second test run on the original sample(at the expense of
the student or parent)by the school laboratory at the parents(or
students) request;
- Required parent/gaurdian meeting;
- Suspension from all U.I.L. Athletic and Academic Activities and
Extracurricular Programs for a peroid of 30 calender days;
- Refer to outside sources for counseling at the parents request;
require school counseling;
- Retest during next random testing
- Suspension will begin the day the results are confirmed
Second positive test result:
- Suspension from all U.I.L. Athletic and Academic Activities and
Extracurricular Programs for the remainder of the school year.
- Required parent/gaurdian meeting;
- Refer to outside sources for counseling at the parents request;
- require school counseling;
Each time a student says no to
a drug test, after having signed a permission slip, it will be treated
as a positive test: 1st no=1st positive test-equal to the same
consequences 2nd no=2nd positive test-equal to the same consequences
Students who would like to volunter to enter the program may do so,
respective of the same consequences as the athletes. Students who do not
declare at the begining of the school year their intent to participate
in U.I.L. Athletic and Academic Activities and Extracurricular Programs,
wil be tested at the time of their declaration into the activity.
