Schoenau-Liestal 130km
I continued on the french side of the Rhine until Breisach. My map claimed that it was a pleasant cycling road. It was, however, quite busy, with a lot of trucks. It was also mostly dead straight, and rather boring cycling. I prefer it when you can't see that far ahead, and contantly see something new.
Anyway, I crossed the river at Breisach, had lunch, and bought a new lock for my bike, as the other one had fallen off somewhere. Breisach was such a nice change to the ugly french towns along the Rhine. It had a quaint centre and pedestrian area, and a nice atmosphere. The guy in the bike shop recommended that I cycle on the german side of the Rhine. It was a good idea. It was a beautiful dirt road along the 'Old Rhine' - very wooded, with scerenic views out over the swanned river (Photos 1, 2 and 3 ). I finally arrived in Basel, made my way to the train station, where the Veloland Schweiz cycle route started, and then followed it to Liestal. By then the clouds were looking sufficiently threatening, that I decided to stop for the night in a hotel.
