DDP chips for Digimon Accelerator
I've been thinking that entering the DDP codes (and to some extent the DNA codes) by hand is a bit of a pain, and the official DDP chips are really expensive -- so I made some cards that can be scanned instead.
THIS PAGE IS AN OLD VERSION. I left it here because it describes an alternative method. Go to the new page for more information, links, and the template downloads.
----
To make your own set of cards:
First, download the PDF file and print out the templates. Make sure to print them actual size -- turn off all scaling options. It should say 100% size. The three boxes on the printout should end up the exact size and shape of a credit card. (I make that 85.5 * 54mm.)
Now, there's lots of ways you can do this. The idea is to use the top layer as a mask, to insulate some areas, and leave others showing through to a conducting layer underneath. (The shaded areas on the template represent metal.) The method I describe here gives a good, durable finished product, but it does take a while to make, and it needs a special hole-punch tool -- I might be the only person here who has one. Anyway, I'm going to post my method to illustrate the idea. So do anything that works.
----
Cut out the templates and glue them onto thin card. Then, punch out the central hole in each circle, and all the holes in the shaded areas. Leave the white ones alone. So you get something like this:
The back piece is made of thick, sturdy cardboard. Spread a thin layer of PVA glue all over it. Stick on four little squares of aluminium foil. They need to be in the right places and big enough so that metal will show through all the holes, but you need to leave enough sticky card exposed so that the front piece will stick to it. Be very careful not to get any glue on the top surface of the foil.
Then, push the front piece into place and clamp it tightly until it has set. (I put a sheet of newspaper over it and squashed it under a heavy book.) Punch out the central hole in each circle again. So, the holes round the edges of the circles should show foil through them, but the central hole should go right through the back piece as well. (I had also cut the back piece slightly large, so at this point I trimmed the edges to match the template.)
Now to make it into a DDP chip it needs a spike in the middle. I'm using a random block of wood with a short piece of cocktail stick glued into a hole, but you could do it with cardboard too. It takes a bit of trial and error to get the length right -- too short and it doesn't register as a DDP; too long and the sensor pins don't all make contact.
So, to scan the card, I place one of the holes over the stick like this...
And scan it like this. The small peg on the side of the sensor (that fits into the notch on a regular DDP) is lined up with one of the numbered lines. (So I'm scanning number 38 in this picture.) Push it down firmly to be sure it's making contact.

So, what do the numbers mean? I could have called them anything, but since I'm a geek, I used the decimal equivalent of the binary code that shows up on the screen when DNA scanning. 000101 is 5, and so on. (These things work for DNA too, by the way. Just scan the card without putting the spike through it.) I chose to refer to them by their codes and not by what they do, because the same codes mean different things in different contexts.
Here is a list of the number conversions. As an example I included the DDP list from File Island in numerical order, with the duplicate codes removed.
Decimal Binary Justice/Evil DDP 5 000101 Aegis 6 000110 Battle + Lightning Hammer 7 000111 Holy DNA 12 001100 Dramon Killer 13 001101 Gram 14 001110 Battle + Dark Cannon 15 001111 Dark DNA 20 010100 Grey Sword 21 010101 Air Wind 22 010110 Battle + Energy Lance 23 010111 Machine/Mutant DNA 28 011100 Kaiser Knuckle 29 011101 Lightning Blade 30 011110 Dragon DNA 31 011111 STR-MAX 36 100100 Thor Hammer 37 100101 Ice Blow 38 100110 Beast DNA 39 100111 DP-MAX 44 101100 Burning Fist 45 101101 Battle + Burning Knuckle 46 101110 Water DNA 47 101111 Level Reverse 52 110100 Mugen Cannon 53 110101 Battle + Ice Claw 54 110110 Bird DNA 55 110111 One of Every DNA 60 111100 Rappa Mike 61 111101 Battle + Wind Sword 62 111110 Insect/Plants DNA 63 111111 One of Every DNA
The DNA lists are shown in that order anyway. I made myself a spreadsheet to print out, so that I can look things up quickly.
