Advertising Your E-fed: What Not To Do!
Victoria Callaghan
When an e-fed owner starts an e-fed, if it's their first time, they generally think that their e-fed is going to be a huge success...then it dies. If you don't want to work to get people to join, then there's no sense starting an e-fed, just join someone elses.
The following is a list of things not to do when trying to get people to join and a few ways to take the same idea, but do it right.
Everyone says this, but some people don't pay any attention. Do not post an ad for your fed on someone else's RP board, whether the fed is dead or going good, don't even post it on the OOC board. Have some respect for the owner and e-mail them asking if they could add a link to your e-fed or let you post a link on their OOC board. If they decline, don't pester them, spam them, insult them or post the ad anyway, kindly thank them for their time and try someone else.
Don't spam message boards or someone's e-mail over and over again, once is enough and more then that makes you look bad.
When advertising your e-fed, don't call it "the best" or claim to have anything the best in it. Some new people to e-fed's may take a look, but veterans of the 'sport' know better. Instead list the good points of your fed without boasting it, that will convince people better then saying that you're "the best" e-fed around.
If someone posts on a board for e-fed's as a free agent and wants e-mails for e-fed's looking to expand their roster, go ahead and e-mail them...once. Look into their character though, call them by name and refer to some of their accomplishments if the information is available to you, it will impress them that you did your homework. Don't send an impersonal e-mail or send one default e-mail to a group of people, that make's the person feel like they're not important enough to get their own e-mail. Also, don't be long-winded in e-mail's, state your best points then ask them to check out your e-fed. If someone refuses you, don't be rude and insult them, or stalk them like I had happen once, thank them for their time and move on.
Don't start advertising for your fed until everything is up and you're ready to begin. Someone would rather join one up and running then have to wait for you to get yours up.
