The area around the Don Muang Airport is best avoided by motorcycles. The roads are complicated and plagued with the traffic police. This map is for those who live near the Don Muang Airport, and for those who needs to visit the area on a motorcycle.
Trans Airport North Route
This road runs through the Royal Thai Air Force Base. It's open to the public. There's a checkpoint at each end, but you can pass freely unless you look very suspicious.
To get on to this road from the northbound Viphawadi-Rangsit Road, take the U-turn bridge at the northern end of the airport (sign: U-Turn Bridge, Air Force Base). The bridge splits into two directions up in the air, so you take the left-turn toward the Air Force Base.
Trans Airport South Route
This road runs through the Airport/Air-Force compound. It's open to the public. From the southbound Viphawadi-Rangsit Road, note the PTT gas station as a landmark. There is no direct way to get there from the northbound Viphawadi Rangsit Road.
Viphawadi-Rangsit/Phahon-Yothin Junction
This junction is tricky.
From the northbound Viphawadi Rangsit Road:
Riding along the frontage road, there's an entrance to the bridge which swerves and takes you onto the southbound Phahon Yothin Road. The thing is, if you don't enter this bridge, you'll automatically enter the Viphawadi-Rangsit main road - 50% chance of being flagged down and fined.
If you want to continue northward on the Viphawadi-Rangsit Road at this junction, you should turn into a side road just before the junction, which swerves along the swerving bridge and brings you back to the Viphawadi-Rangsit frontage road.
From the northbound Phahon Yothin Road:
Taking the bridge (overpass) brings you onto the Viphawadi-Rangsit Road. Change to the left lane immediately, or you'll enter the Viphawadi-Rangsit main road - 50% chance of being flagged down and fined.
If you don't take the bridge, at the end of the Phahon Yothin Road, you may either turn left to get on to the southbound Viphawadi-Rangsit frontage road, or make a U-turn under the bridge to head south on the Phahon Yothin Road.
