Bangkok District Maps

The BMA - Bangkok Metropolitan Administration - website provides detailed street maps of each district. However, unless you can read Thai, reaching the relevant page and downloading the relevant map can be troublesome. This page aims to serve as a quick guide to their map resource.

They have both the English version and Thai version. Although these versions are of different origins, they are both based on the same GIS data, thus the same precision and details.

One critical difference, however, is that the English version is provided in much smaller scans than the Thai version, to the extent that it is often difficult to read the annotation. One good reason to download the Thai version.

Following are sample captures from the two versions of the Pathumwan District (MBK, Siam Square and the southeastward).
    English Version
    File name: pathumwan.JPG
    Dimensions: 1280 x 905 px
    Size: 628 KB

    Thai Version
    File name: dista305.jpg
    Dimensions: 2125 x 1513 px
    Size: 679 KB

1. English Version
The index page is located at
http://203.155.220.230/gis_online/download/districtmap_eng/distmap_eng.html

This is a gateway to maps of the 50 districts of Bangkok.

Clicking on a thumbnail image opens a new window with
a. Small preview image
b. [Load Picture] button - download the map
c. [Preview] button - display the map

Basically, the [Load Picture] button and [Preview] button result in the same map with same resolution, but the latter lacks sharpness and is split into many small sections, thus not suitable for keeping as a single file in your computer.

2. Thai Version
The index page is located at
http://203.155.220.230/gis_online/information/gisdata/district_thai/webmap/districtthai_map.html

Clickong on a thumbnail image opens a new window with
a. Small preview image
b. [Load Picture] button
c. [Large Preview] button

Names of the districts are provided in Thai, and the order they are presented is rather incoherent, not corresponding to the English index. To find the district you want to click on, you need to open the English index and exercise a bit of pattern recognition between the two sets of thumbnails.

3. GIS Data
The downloadable GIS data are located at
http://203.155.220.230/gis_online/download/download_shp.html

If you have a GIS/GPS software which can read "shape files" (.shp format), you may find these data interesting.
