| Birmingham Songwriters is no longer affiliated with any "international" entity. The last group of folks that we spent years supporting have dropped us from their website contact list of affiliated chapters. The Birmingham Coordinator was not contacted by these folks, and discovered the current state of affairs upon visiting their website recently. Upon contacting the new Co-coordinator, the longtime Coordinator received news that the folks up in the "corporate" office didn't like the Co-coordinator's attitude when they attempted to scold him for not returning calls to potential members. As life is, we are VOLUNTEERS, and family/career comes first!!! Raising money through "new-member dues" for "corporate" yahoos comes in a distant third at best. THEY got an earfull of OUR issues...Most offensive to us, was no less than two local events sanctioned by the "governing organization" without involving, nor notifying this area chapter. Moreover, the "corporate" folks didn't like the Co-coordinator's opinion of member "benefits" that cost members more money. Lots more money!!! Birmingham Songwriters is NOT going to encourage you to buy books about how to get your first cut (some written by persons without any cuts), NOT going to serve as a venue for persons to drop by town and hock their wares, NOT going to encourage you to pay for song critiques performed by someone with no relative success of their own, and DEFINITELY NOT going to take the naive dreamer down some garden path only to take their money in exchange for some pipe dream. By the way, our mailing list is NOT to be used for personal gain... we're going to see if we can copyright that and sue their assets if they do it again! We would rather be independent than take advantage of folks that WE actually have to look in the eye. Corporate affiliated songwriters should be MENTORING it's DUES-PAYING members, NOT making their living off us!!! We've been tending to other folk's business way too long, so we're getting back to songwriting. Birmingham Songwriters will continue with renewed vigor and assert a long suppressed philosophy..."Carpet Bagger mentality and "snake oil" not welcome in our group. Come join us!
