Alan has been one of my biggest influences for many many years. During the early part of his tenure in Yes, Alan was a monster, bringing a power to Yes that was completely different from the jazzier stylings of previous drummer Bill Bruford. You can really hear the greatness of Alan on the mid 70's albums such as Tales From Topographic Oceans and Relayer. Gates of Delirium from the Relayer album features Alan at his very best, as Alan takes the frantic time changes of the tune and makes them seamless. It's great to hear Alan still doing this today with this epic tune. No doubt a huge influence on my drumming, one I am very thankful for. |
