Like many people, I had only known Andy Rooney as the commentator at the end of the 60 Minutes TV show. I didn't realize he had been a war correspondent in WWII as well as the author of numerous books.
This book details Andy's view of World War II. It's sort of rambling, like his 60 Minutes commentaries, but the well written. This is an easy book to read but not all the subject matter is easy to deal with. A number of Andy's friends died in the war and the book is dedicated to them. There is also a description of the death camp that Andy visited at the end of the European war.
For those of us that view WWII from a historical perspective, this book provides a very personal view. I recommend this book highly.
Note that this book is now out in a 2000 edition published by PublicAffairs
