It was cold and mostly clear in the Chicago suburbs on the evening of January 20th. At first the moon was visible behind some thin clouds but just about when the moon entered the umbra the clouds disappeared. It was almost Zero (F) out so my camera was somewhat flaky. I used a 200 mm lens with a 2x teleconverter to take these unguided photos. They were all very short exposures, on the order of 1/60 of a second for the partial eclipse photos.
Partial Lunar Eclipse Photo
Total Lunar Eclipse Photo. Note how the disk is illuminated unevenly.
I sent this film to Kodak for processing and asked for a Picture CD. I figured they would digitize all the images on the negatives. WRONG! They did what all consumer photo processors do with your astronomy photos - only digitize the ones that the machine thinks are not blank! Why they don't digitize all the negatives I can't even guess. They didn't even scan as many images as they printed!
