Comet Picture

Comet Hale-Bopp at 5:30 am on March 6, 1997 in my backyard. This is a 2 minute time exposure on Kodak Royal Gold 1000 using a zoom lens set to 50 mm at about f3.5. It was taken using a simple barn-door mount to track the stars.

Here is Hale-Bopp in the evening on March 25, 1997. This is with a 50 mm, f1.8 lens using Kodak Gold 200 Film and about a 2 minute exposure. This was again guided using the barn door mount.

Orion

Orion in Mid-Winter

Here is the first photo I took with the barn door mount. This is a 5 minute time exposure with an 85 mm lens and Kodak Gold 200 Film. Note how all the star images are still round. It looks to me like it got stars to about magnitude 6. This is interesting to me, since we are very close to Chicago here.

Barn-door mount

This is the barn-door mount I used to track the stars. Without tracking of the stars, they and the comet would all be streaks on the picture.
