I met Mr Wade Brent when I first started researching the Brent family. He provided me with family stories about his father and aunts and uncle Charley Brent. The most informative story involved Mary Brent whom is reported to have been drowned in the Ouachita River. This was reported to have taken place when she and her second husband (name unknown) were riding horses looking for cattle during a flood. They had ridden their horses to the river to bring back the cows and changed horses at the river. Her husband gave her a younger more spirited horse to ride. The horse had a martingale on to keep his head down. Something happened to them in the water and Mary drowned. When her husband found her, she was "wrapped around a willow tree" with her heavy riding skirt wrapped around her head. Mollie Sandell Putman was four years old when her mother drowned and was looking on from the bank.
