Borrowing from New Brunswick Public Libraries Library Cards Library cards are free. Bring in one piece of identification with your current address and you will receive your card immediately. If you do not have I.D. with your address, your card will be mailed to you. Children under 13 years of age require a parent's signature. Non New Brunswick Residents With valid I.D., may obtain a temporary library card. A $20 deposit is required, $15 of which is refundable. Lending Period Regular Loan Period : Most items can be borrowed for three weeks. Videos can be borrowed for one week. Special Loans : In special circumstances, such as vacations, materials available for three week loan may be checked out for a longer loan period. Please check with the staff for details. Placing a Request: If an item you want is not in, you may place a request for it. You will be notified when it is available. You must have a library card to place a request. Up to 10 requests can be placed per library card. Materials will be held only for 7 days following notification. There is no charge for placing a request on an item. To place a request see circulation desk staff. Renewals : Most items may be renewed twice unless requested by another borrower. Fines / Replacement Fine Free Borrowers : Shut in patrons and Registered Talking Book patrons are not charged fines on overdue items. General Fine Rate : 15 cents per item per day to a maximum of $3 per item. Videos : $1 per item per day to a maximum of $10 per item. Replacement Costs for Lost or Damaged Items : An item 35 days or more overdue is considered lost and the replacement cost plus a $5.00 per item processing fee is automatically charged to your card. When a replacement cost is paid, the outstanding fine on the item is waived. If the item is returned, the replacement cost is canceled and the borrower is charged the maximum fine. If a paid-for item is later returned in good condition, a refund minus the processing fee will be mailed. Suspension of Privileges When a borrower has been issued a replacement bill or has over $20 owing in unpaid fines, borrowing privileges will be suspended. Lost Card Please report a lost card to your local library immediately. A $2 replacement charge applies for a lost borrower's card.
