POWER

Even the youths shall faint and be weary, and the young men shall utterly fall: But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run and not be weary, and they shall walk and not faint. Isaiah: 40:31-32

It seems wherever you look in the world, people want power. Christians want more power in strength, more power in witnessing, power in believing. Do you want more power in your life? Lets look at Psalms 62:11.... Power belongs to God. How do we get power from God? The key to receiving power is prayer. A Christian must pray in order to receive anything from God. If you are prayerless, you receive nothing from Him. What did it take you for to become saved? It took prayer of faith. Eph.2:8,9 For by Grace are ye saved through faith and not of yourselves, it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.

Prayer is our only communication to God. Without it we are nothing, we are helpless. God use to walk and talk daily with Adam in the Garden of Eden. Then one day Adam hid from God. Why? Because he sinned and hid from God. If you are prayerless you are hiding from God.

The reason why some of us don't pray is because we haven't denied ourself. What is denial? A refusal to comply with or satisfy a request. Psychology- An unconscious defense mechanism characterized by refusal to acknowledge painful realities, thoughts, or feelings. And most important: A refusal to accept or believe something, such as a doctrine or belief. When we start accepting the truth from the Bible and abiding by it, things start to happen in our lives.

When self is denied, prayer will come into existence. When you put the love of the world behind you and go to into your prayer closet and seek His Glory and Wonder, prayer will be born.

The only way you can touch heaven is through prayer. The Bible is clear saying that. Every believer needs to pray, we must pray. This world we now live in needs more prayer than anything else. We don't need any new crime laws, we don't need any new prisons, we don't need any cure for Aids. The cure is out there. 2 Chronicles 7:14 If my people would humble themselves and repent and confess their sins before me, I will hear their prayer and heal their land. But until then we will suffer as a nation. We need God's power on our lives, our hearts against sin in the flesh.

There are three categories of people that God will not answer when it comes to prayer. 1. The group that God will not hear, 2. Another group that God will hear, 3. And those He hears but, will not answer.

First lets deal with the ones that God will not hear. Some people think all prayer is heard. Psalms 66:18 says; If I regard iniquity in my heart, the Lord will not hear me. You might feel and believe your prayer is heard, but that's not what the Bible says.

The word regard means to look upon or consider in a particular way, means to approve, means look upon sin with favor. Any individual that looks on sin in with favor, God will not hear that person. Turn to Habakkuk 1:13 Lets us see what the Lord is saying, and maybe you will understand the way it is. Hab. 1:13 Thou art of purer eyes than to behold evil , and canst not look on iniquity: wherefore lookest thou upon them that deal treacherously, and holdest thy tongue when the wicked devoureth the man that is more righteous than he? God is not pleased when we look at sin with pleasure.

The verse says be ye holy for I'm holy. We have to obey that. This is God speaking. God will not look upon iniquity, and we must not look upon it. You might say that it is impossible to live holy. That's not true. With the power of the Holy Spirit it is possible. We struggle with our daily thoughts which some are evil. A well known Evangelist said: We can't keep the birds from flying over our heads, but we can keep them from nesting in our hair. When an evil or impure thought comes into your mind, do not dwell on it. Get rid of it by dwelling on what it is to be Christ like. Quote scripture, start counting up to a thousand if you have to. The mind can't think about two things at once. If you put your hand on hot burner on the stove, are you going to hold it there? I hope not. We will burn for our sins as Bible tells us.

The second group of people that God will not hear are found in Proverbs 28:9 He that turneth his ears from hearing the law, even his prayer will be an abomination. What does abomination mean? To regard with extreme dislike and hostility. Hating, despising, loathing, detesting, execrating. When we refuse to hear God's Word, God will not hear us.

The third group, turn to Proverb 21:13. Whoso stoppeth his ears at the cry of the poor, he also shall cry himself, but shall not be heard. When we start helping others in need, then God will start helping you.

Next issues coming up in prayer:

1. Those people that God will hear.
2. Seven steps to answered prayer.
3. Prayer of binding and loosing.
4. What should we pray for.
5. How to receive what we pray for.

These will be separate issues that are sent out. I will try to get them out at one per week. I have many letters to answer which takes up a lot of my time.
