The Beacon Falls Lions Club started their first Duck Race in 1999. That year there was no accompanying RiverFest, just food served by the local Congregational Church and a small sale of Great American Duck Race merchandise. The high point that year was the Race. As more than 1,000 sunglass-clad, yellow rubber ducks floated down the river, spectators chased them along the banks and down the road.

Each year more events and activities have been added so that the 9th Annual RiverFest includes more food, more crafts, more activities and more ducks.

The Beacon Hose Fire Company has joined in with a kick-off to Fire Safety Week that includes a coloring contest at Laurel Ledge Elementary School where the lucky winners get rides on the fire truck. There are tours of the equipment and numerous fire safety demonstrations throughout the day.

This year The Trail Riders band returns for more kick-up-your-heels fun and music.

Wind Over Wings, a nonprofit, wildlife rehabilitation and education center also returns with more rescued birds of prey.

There are games of skill, bouncy tents, food, crafts and more

Proceeds from the RiverFest are used to fund Beacon Falls Lions and Lioness Club projects such as Scholarships, Sports Teams, Lions Low Vision Centers, eye research programs at Yale and UCONN, FIDELCO Guide Dogs, assistance programs for local residents with special needs, Lions Project Canine Companions for Independence and more.
