The Yorba and Slaugher Families Adobe, built in 1852, is one of the oldest residences in San Bernandino County. It belonged to one of the most influential property owners in Mexican California, Jos Antonio Yorba. It was bought in 1868 by Fenton M. Slaughter, a veteran of the Mexican-American War, who also served in the state legislature and the San Bernandino County board of supervisors. The current adobe was built in 1852-53 and replaced the original adobe, which was built by Raymundo Yorba in 1851 but was burned down that same year. Activities include the "Battle of Chino" reenactment of the Mexican-American War. To reach it from Euclid Avenue (Route 83), turn north on Pomona-Rincon Road. Chino Airport is off Route 83, south of Merrill Avenue. There, you will you will find The Air Museum: Planes of Fame. The museum opened in January 1957 and is the oldest permanent museum of aviation west of the Rocky Mountains. It houses a wide collection of airplanes from past and present, including rare World War II planes and the Chanute Hang Glider of 1896. Restoration and educational programs are also offered. The museum is on 7000 Merrill Avenue, east of Route 83. On Route 83 in Ontario is Chaffey High School, which holds many student- related events throughout the year, including the Tournament of Bands, where marching bands from across the region compete for prizes. The tournament is divided into two segments, one for parade bands and the other for shows on the football field ("field shows"). Your Host participated in this competition in 1998.
