California's Route 61

361. Route 61 is from Route 84 near Newark to Route 580 near Albany via the vicinity of San Leandro and Oakland International Airport and via Alameda. No portion of Route 61 shall be constructed as a freeway north of Hegenberger Road. F&E System Entire route. Status Unconstructed from Route 84 to Route 112. Not signed from Route 880 to Route 580. Notes In the vicinity before Hegenberger Road is the Oakland Airport. Alameda, for your information, is one of those so-called "All-American" towns. In Alameda, there's the U.S. Naval Air Station. There's also some kind of signing conflict with Route 61 and Route 260, dealing with the two tunnels that go under the Inner Harbor, the Webster Tube and the Posey Tube. And at Route 880 (Route 61 creeps below the overpass of Route 880), there's a sign saying that the end of Route 61 is here. As far as I've noted, this is the only route in California where it is restricted from being constructed to a freeway in any part of the route.
